i'm excited for the party part of my shower, not necessarily for the gifts. I just wanted some time to spend with all the lady family and friends in my life!
Traditionally family or bridesmaids will host the shower, its not something that you demand. If they want to throw this for you, feel grateful to have such loving friends and family. If you are feeling uncomfortable about it, just don't ask anyone to do this, but be happy if they do. Good luck!

Does anyone else feel this way? I just feel greedy, my parents threw us an engagement party where we got some gifts, and we're inviting 180 people to the wedding and we'll get gifts there.....it just makes me a little uncomfortable that the SOLE purpose of the shower is to get gifts. And it isn't like a baby shower where you really need the stuff and its the only gift-giving opportunity. I mean, there is a lot of stuff I want, I'm just starting a household, but I don't NEED it.
Also, I'm dreading opening up presents in front of everyone. It just seems so awkward! I've always hated opening presents, I don't know how to handle it if its a duplicate gift.
I guess I do kind of feel like because I've dragged gifts to so many other people's showers that it's my turn, I'm just so ambivalent about it!
