Sparklepop: You made the right choice. The last thing that workplaces need is martyrs who stay at work and get everyone else sick.

Uh, you were really sick. So, no. You didn’t make a bad choice. I don’t get why you think going home because you’re really sick is a bad thing.

Sparklepop: You were really sick. There is no “wondering”. You weren’t just being a jerk, leaving work for people because you felt like it. THEN you should feel bad. You were legitimately sick.

I worry for why you felt the need to feel so guilty about this.

Your coworkers will thank you for: not giving them a possible norovirus, not letting them hear/smell you throwing up (which you might have done if you had exhausted yourself at work instead of sleeping).

I used to think it showed dedication to stay at work when sick, but it is really just unhelpful and ends up hurting overall productivity.

If you were my coworker, I’d want you to go home! You potentially saved your colleagues and the little ones you work with from catching something, and the fact that you slept so much means you obviously needed to rest. I get why you feel guilty because I am the same way, but you really shouldn’t. 🙂

Sparklepop: you did the right thing! It irritates me to no end when people try to be a hero and stay at work while sick, spreading their germs allover the place.

Sparklepop: You wouldn’t have slept today from 9:30 to 3:30 if your body wasn’t ill and needing rest for fighting off something.

I absolutely hate people staying at work when they are sick. Mainly because when I was pregnant the girl who sat across from me was sick, even though I suggested to her numerous times to go home but she refused, which meant I then got sick and ended up having 2 weeks off work (unpaid) and also a hospital visit, because this girl tried to be a hero. I also hate when bosses try to make you feel guilty for leaving work when you are sick. I don’t listen anymore. My health is much more important to me than their feelings.

Sparklepop: you are sick! Stuff happens. Some day you’ll cover for that guy–that’s life. My FI is from the UK and doesn’t understand the “guilt” that we Americans feel about taking sick days. Get some rest and listen to your body, it’s pretty smart! 🙂
