Not a suggestion you may be looking for but for our wedding bands the jeweler let us put the bands on layaway and pay off a little at a time.  So mine was $2k and his was $1500 and we have about 50% paid already.  Just an idea…

Do they have a lay-a-way program? Like the PP above suggested it is a good way to save for it.

Are you open to other stones? Like white topaz or a moissy..? There are similar rings out there for less than $1000.

I say lay away too or just make a solid plan.  My guy and I bought a sofa on a credit card when we were still in MA and it was an awful idea because I just paid if off a few months ago even though we no longer have the couch. We gave it to my mother because we couldn’t take it with us, it was still new ish and I couldn’t bear selling it for $200 when my mom needed a new one anyway and couldn’t pay to get one.

So when it came to furnishing our apartment we waited til we had the cash in hand.  We a a futon as our only piece of furnture for like 5 months until we could afford the bed.  And luckily that coinsided with Labor Day sales so we were also able to get a TV and TV stand with the money we saved.  We waited another 5 months to and got a couch to replace the futon (which was falling apart) so if layway is not an option just make a budget and make it a priority or consider other stones.  There is a bee here who has a lovely white topaz that cost her something like $250.
