I feel like some family members are judging me a bit for getting a new wedding band since I wanted one with diamonds on it. Like I’m selfish or spoiled. I’m just feeling a bit bad about it and needed to vent.

@howtobeawife: why do they care? I say stare at the sparkle and forget about the judgemental comments. Congrats on the new ring 🙂

@howtobeawife: Psh. I’m surprised they even noticed! You can get whatever makes you happy! Why do others have opinions about these things?! I will never understand!

Generally, when people think poorly of someone else who is enjoying any type of expensive item or gift, it’s because the person holding that negative opinion is envious. Enjoy your beautiful new ring, and try not to be concerned about what others may think.

Aww! I’m sorry they’re being like that. You should be able to enjoy your glittery new band!

@howtobeawife: I’m sorry to hear that!
It sucks that some people don’t understand how a new sparkly thing that brings you happiness can be a worthwhile investment. Perhaps it’s a bit materialistic, but it’s not their money, if you can afford it why the hell not?
I feel judged by my family sometimes, they don’t understand all the things FI and I spend money on, but at the end of the day I just remember that they’re human beings with flaws but they do love me and want me to be happy.

They have no business feeling that way – they didn’t pay for it! Enjoy your bling.

They’re probably just jealous. I know people use that as a cop out sometimes, but I really think they’re probably jealous that you could afford to buy a brand new sparkly. Let them be. You deserve to have it, if you want it. 🙂

@howtobeawife: Enjoy your ring and forget about any judgements! It’s really not their plsce to say anything- they should be happy for you!

It’s jealousy! Don’t take it personally, even though I know sometimes that can be hard. Can we see a picture, pretty please?!?

People tend to throw the “jealous” term a lot, but in this case, it sounds like it fits.
I’m sorry they’re like that. You deserve to have a sparkly band! You can always come here and show it off!

@howtobeawife: Don’t worry about it! Seems like easy advice, but they’re not the ones wearing the ring so they have no room to judge. It’s certainly not something they will think about or have to deal with for the rest of their lives- so do what makes you happy! All will be forgotten in no time, and you will still have a beautiful ring that you love!

I even tried to make it sound better by emphasizing that we got it on sale.
