I took Clomid while already ovulating on my own and after 2 chemical pregnancies.  I am almost 7 weeks pregnant now.  Although I was worried about Progesterone levels, I never took it on its own.  I’ve heard that Clomid can increase progesterone too, so I guess maybe that’s what happened. I also was NOT monitored in my Clomid cycle.  They would have started that after 3 unsucessful cycles of Clomid.  I hope Femara/Letrozole are what you need!

I’ve taken both Clomid and Letrozole and I ovulate on my own, but rather late, anywhere from CD 28-35.  My first 2 rounds of Clomid was unmonitored and the second did not have any effect (O’d on CD35, CD18 on the first round).  My dosage was upped and I was monitored since I went to see an RE instead.  TI and IUI with rounds 3 and 4 respectively, both failed.  I just took Letrozole this cycle and has a very late response it it with just a 8mm follie by CD17.  Oddly by CD21, I was in the middle of a LH surge and the follie seemed to be ovulating and I just had IUI today, so we’ll see.  I believe there is less chance for multiple with Letrozole than Clomid.  I’m not sure I understand why you would need letrozole when you already ovulate and have no problem getting pregnant.  Why not just the progesterone supplements after ovulating if that is the cause for the miscarrages.

I took Clomid last year one month (was already ovulating but took it to strengthen ovulation and help progesterone levels) and got pregnant, had a completely healthy pregnancy.

i am still having issues with a short luteal phase, most likely from low progesterone, so I took Femara last month. I did not get pregnant, and started spotting 2dpo. My progesterone was checked and it was fine, although A little lower than ideal. I don’t think Femara is ideal for me though, so this month I’m going to try Clomid again.

Dont worry too much about multiples, your odds are only slightly higher using Clomid.

lastlastfirst:  I know how you mean about wanting to go all in.  I was ready to just do IVF for higher chances 4 months ago.  I’m sure it’s not an easy decision to make when we’re so desprate to just be pregnant and have a child, but honestly, if I were in your position, I would opt to do one natural cycle with some mid cycle monitoring to check out the lining and make sure it looks good, then do just the pregesterone if it did.  But if the monitoring did indeed show a thin lining, move forward with the medication next cycle.  You know what to expect with your natrual cycle, and Letrozole or any med could always come with unexpected results.  As desprate as I am, medication was last resort for me and 2 90+ day cycles and 4 failed natural cycles with no bfps at all.  Good luck with whatever you decide!  Hope for a sticky baby for you soon!!

lastlastfirst:  oooh!  If you’ve already had ultrasounds and verified that your lining looks thin, then that changes everything.  I didn’t realize you had that data already too, I thought you’d only verified low progesterone so far.  I’d definitely try the Letrozole then!  Good luck!!

I charted and had what looked like a text book cycle but blood tests turned up progesterone levels so low the dr didn’t think I was ovulating. I was prescribed clomid and now have a healthy little 6w old. I was definetly nervous at first to take clomid too because like you I didn’t understand why I was given that instead of progesterone. After talking to my dr though she said it’s better to start at the beginning then to try and treat a problem after so it was better to try and get the corpus lutum healthier to make more p. Sounds like your dr is on the right path for you too. Good luck.

lastlastfirst: After TTC naturally for about a year, I was put on 2.5mg Femara for 3 cycles even though I was already ovulating on my own (confirmed by charting). My RE thought it could help with egg quality and ovulation. I didn’t get pregnant during those cycles, but the very next cycle we got pregnant naturally and I am now almost 7 weeks pregnant. Someone told me that there is the possibility that your fertility can remain heightened for a cycle or two after fertility meds so I think that’s what must have happened for us. I think Femara is definitely worth a shot, there are lots of success stories out there and I hope you become one. GL hun!
