CapitolBee:  I totally got a new email address. We’re getting married in May, and I wanted to make sure the address was well thought-out. It matches my fiance’s a bit and his mom, too.

I did! I created my new account about a month after we got engaged, the one I really wanted was already taken so I sure as hell wasn’t going to let my 2nd choice get snatched up before I got married! I don’t use it for anything but my VS orders right now, though.

I’m the opposite. I was married in May 2013 and my email account remains in my maiden name! But then I do have a long and hyphenated married name which is HISNAME-MYNAME so it didn’t really seem worth redoing all my business cards and contact details on my website.

I did, but only because I am going from a very unique name to a very common one and I was curious what variations of it I could even get. I figured the sooner I try to claim something the better but I still had to attach a bunch of numbers at the end. Booo.

CapitolBee:  I did it! I have Windows Live email and you can create an “alias,” so that you can use a different email address, but it will still all come to the same inbox. And I registered my alias with my new married name months ago. I didn’t want to start a whole new email account because I’ve had the same one for several years and I know I’d miss stuff if I just abandoned it.

Me, a couple of months ago 🙂 9 days to go now.

i don’t love it because I had to use both my middle initials… I’m pretty lucky to have firstnamelastname right now… but it’s ok. And my original I got eons ago so no surprise I got such a simple addy then.

CapitolBee:  I think i registered mine in March and we got married in June. But i didnt actually start using it until after the wedding. Until then though if i needed to sign up for something i would use my new email. After that i just forwarded my old email to my new one.

I never will actually. It would be way too much of a pain in the ass to change every website that I use that email address on. I’ll just change the name associated with the email but I’ll keep the same first.maiden@blabla forever.

CapitolBee:  I waited until after we were engaged but it was still over a year until the wedding. I only did it because he has SUCH a common last name and as it was I had to try out 10 combinations to get something that was available.

It’s kind of a bummer, because right now I’m the only person in the social media universe with my first name and last name — so my email is firstinitiallastname and my new email is firstname.middleinitial.lastname. Lame.

After seeing this thread….. I totally just did this! Slightly bummed out to find that you can no longer get hotmail.co.uk and it’s outlook.com now. But yayy. We don’t get married for over a year – crazy bride!

I totally did! I have a very common name and have never been able to do a firstname.lastname e-mail, I’ve always had to abbreviate or add crazy numbers to the end of it. So I was super excited to finally do it with FI’s last name!

The man has a super common last night. While my first name isn’t popular, it’s still a nice normal name. I wanted a new email address with my first and last name (or initials) and no numbers, so you bet as soon as we got engaged I fiddled with gmail until I found a combination that worked!

I’ve been married since July 2012…and I totally haven’t done this. I was going to in all my excitement, and then I decided it was too much work to get everything transferred over.

The only e-mail I have in my married name is my work e-mail.

My last name isn’t part of my email, so no, I didn’t and won’t do this.
