Just say no. Seriously- it’s WAY too late for these sort of shenanigans.

Dude, I would LOSE it with this kind of stuff. Like, did he magically forget he had SEVENTY OTHER PEOPLE to invite? How does this happen?

@Olive12:  If you can’t afford it, then you can’t afford it.  They can’t FORCE you to pay for extra people.  If they’re willing to cover the cost, it might be worth the compromise to avoid drama.  Depending on who those other people are (if they’re extended family who should receive “obligatory” invitations) perhaps you can suggest another compromise:  send them wedding announcements after the wedding.  That way they are still being thought of without breaking the bank.

Whaaat? No way! You’re 2 months out – invitations should be going out any day right?

I agree that you and your FI need to be on the same page and set appropriate boundaries with your new in-laws. This is your first big project as a new family (you and your FI). Don’t let others steamroll you.

Can your venue fit another 70 people? And, yeah, if they’re not paying, too damn bad.

No way Jose, I would not stand for that. If you are paying for it, I would tell them that you cant afford it and sorry. I would have blown my top if my FFIL would have done that to me.

no way.  Tell them you already have the invites ready to go and have given the venue a count.
