Our lease is up next spring and we are going to make a jump from Houston to Nashville next March.
We want to rent a townhouse/apartment/condo and are not familiar with the good/bad areas that locals know of in and around their city.
Our only stipulation is that we need a fairly easy commute to the airport for work.
Anyone familiar with:
a) Mission Priest Lake (apartments?) in Nashville
b) Piccadilly Apartments in Goodlettsville
c) Franklin Oaks Apartments in Franklin
d) Colonial Grand at Bellevue in Nashville
or have any other suggestions?
Those are some that I found online that caught my eye. We don’t know the local areas, and we would prefer to not be in a shady part of town.
I am asking for your help to point us in the right direction if you can. We would be very much obliged. 🙂

Just bumping this up because I posted it last night and maybe someone who is awake now can help out. 🙂

If you want to be near the airport, I would look at the Mount Juliet area. It is very nice though I am not too familiar with the townhouse/apartment/condo situation. The area is becoming a really popular place to live but it is not too far from Nashville, has a ton of new subdivisions and a really nice new outdoor shopping/dining area. As for the apartments you have listed, C and D are not close to the airport at all. You would have quite a commute.

Ah, Mt. Juliet, thanks for the advice- I’ll check that area out a little closer. Thank you! 🙂

Another area that’s close to the airport is Inglewood and Hermitage.
I lived in Bellevue before and loved it, but I wouldn’t call it close to the airport. Same with Franklin or Goodlettsville.

How long of a drive would you say it is to the airport from Bellevue? Is the traffic often pretty bad?

My cousin lived in Franklin Oaks Apartments for about a year after she graduated college. They are in a great part of town (Cool Springs), like 5 minutes from the interstate, probably 25 minutes to the airport. However, the apartments themselves are very basic. You could certainly spruce it up but they wouldn’t be my first choice for married life, honestly – more for a single person either fresh out of college or retired. But the apartments are in a nice, safe residential area – I know you don’t always get that in other areas close to Nashville.

Aw, I grew up right outside of Nashville and I miss it SO MUCH! You’re lucky to be moving there, it’s a great place. I agree, if you want to be near the airport, Hermitage or Mt Juliet are close. Bellevue is a GREAT area and the drive from there to the airport wouldn’t be bad. I’ve learned since moving to Atlanta that commutes are relative….Bellevue to the airport is nothing as far as commute goes, compared to what I’m used to, so it just depends on your definition of a long commute. Franklin, although awesome IMO, would be pretty far, but it’s all interstate, so it really wouldn’t be that bad.Hendersonville could be considered, I liked it there. I would stay away from Antioch, though.

Ditto on the Bellevue area… I always lived in the older part of town in Nashville or on campus when I was there, but Franklin is still my favorite area probably because of all the good school memories…

I second staying away from Antioch!

Our plan is to rent for about a year-15 months. We’ll be saving up all we can in this time for a down payment and looking around for a home that we like in about a 40 mile radius from the airport.
@daniellemybelle – Thanks for the info on Franklin Oaks!
OK, so definitely stay away from Antioch, but it sounds like Bellevue, Mt Juliet, Hermitage and Franklin are still game.
Thank you all so so much. 🙂

I agree with the other ladies. I have a house in Hermitage, and it’s the closest out of all of those areas to the airport. Depending on what hours you work, the commute from Bellevue or Franklin could take a while if it’s anywhere near rush hours. If you’ll be visiting before you move, I’d advise you to pick a couple of areas and actually test the drive at the times you’d normally be driving to work. Good luck!

Stay away from Antioch. Bellevue is the area that got hit the worst in the flood, so many areas are still under flood reconstruction. We lived in an apartment in Hermitage for 1 1/2 years, and just bought a house here in April. We’re about 5 minutes from the airport, and love our location. It’s close to downtown, my fiance and I both commute about 30 minutes to our offices downtown. The housing prices are fabulous. The apartment complex we lived in was called The Cove at Priest Lake. FI lived there before I moved to Nashville and had a great rate on a 1 bdrm, then we got a 2bdrm when I moved here. Please PM me if you’d like more information.

Hermitage is a good place to be and so is Mt. Juliet. Franklin is beautiful, but about 30 minutes from the airport. Hendersonville isn’t bad either.
