A washer and dryer!!!
I’m so excited not to have to haul all of our dirty laundry to the laundromat anymore! Eeeee! They’ll be here sometime tomorrow, and I swear I’m as excited as a kid on Christmas eve! Hahaha
What was your first joint purchase with your SO/FI/DH?

Aw yah! Nice!
A laundermat would suck..
Our first purchase together was the home. We kinda skipped everything and bought the house. We don’t live with each other yet, and we don’t want to rent.

A house, well depending on how big a purchase you mean, maybe my car ($2800).
I have front loaders that my parents bought us as a housewarming gift, and I love those suckers!! I was able to do 3 baskets overfilled with clothes in 2 loads. We only do laundry like every 2 weeks

Woohoo! Having your own machines makes such a huge difference in quality of life…congrats!
We went straight for a home and that was our first big purchase, I think. Next up, a dishwasher.

I know it sounds stupid, but it really is so nice to be able to do your own laudry on your schedule in your own home.

I think our next purchase will probably be a home as well. The rent is so cheap here though, that we’ll probably stay for a couple more years (at least until FIs completely done with college).
Like lefeymw: said, “…it really is so nice to be able to do your own laundry on your schedule in your own home.” Which is EXACTLY why I’m so excited. I was so tired of folding my undies in front of strangers…Yuck. 😛

Congrats! But I just had to laugh! My best friend and her DH just signed a P&S on their house and the first thing they ran out and bought was a washer and dryer. I know for me I was excited to buy our furniture. 🙂
Our first joint purchase was our home and then everything to fill it.

@LindsayMaree: Our first major purchase together was furniture. When we moved in together we bought a new living room set and a new tv.

Oue first purchase was a home. Hopefully our next will be a new fridge, ours is OLD (and slightly falling apart)!

Our first big purchase was a new TV + PVR + PS3.

Congrats, I don’t know how I’d live without a washer and dryer!
I moved in with my husband after dating for 5 months, and we needed an armoire to fit all my crap in. I remember being so nervous shopping with him, we were both trying not to step on each others toes and make sure the other person liked it.
Now we just moved to a new home and I’ve done a lot of furniture shopping without him. Luckily since then I’ve realized he doesn’t care that much, as long as it’s practical, so I no longer have to worry.

I am SO jealous – we have to do the laundromat thing, and while it is nice having ALL of it done in 90 minutes once a week… we have to GET to the laundromat, which is about an hour away. That part sucks monkeys.
Our first big purchase together is this wedding 🙂 Aside from some small house items when we moved in together to a new apartment, we just haven’t had a long enough relationship for buying big stuff 😉

I can’t remember if ours was the car or the sofa set or the flat screen.

Right before we moved in together, we bought furniture (a bedroom set, a high-top dining room table, a desk and bookcase for the office and tv stand and a flat screen).
Right after moving in, we bought a washer and dryer and a nice vacuum.
We’ve since also bought a desktop computer and a new car.
Hopefully we’ll be buying a house soon!

I think the first thing we bought together was a bedroom set and new mattress so we could have a queen bed. I moved in with hubby when my roommate moved across the country for a boy and he was using the set that his father had used as a teenager. We bought it from a nice family on Craigslist and we got the mattress store to price match with an internet company so we spent less than $1500 on everything.
We bought a house last month and we’ve purchased a washer/dryer, stove, and new over-the-range microwave. The money is just flying out of our checking account, but fortunately we saved enough to handle these expenses. We also had to pay $1200 to get some plumbing work done (move the laundry hookups to the garage and replace a busted toilet) and the electrician came this morning to price running speaker wire around the living room and some other stuff. Thank goodness I just got a bonus at work and we’ve both been working crazy hours.
