Is there a budget limit?

We do a big b-day every three years, and each time there seems to be a theme. Two years ago, his was baseball and I was able to get him quite a few things. I don’t know about 26, but it might give you some ideas. Plus, the gifts don’t have to material…they can be experiences too. The biggest kick my guy got was from feeling like a celebrity. The b-day button he wore got a ton of comments and everyone was wishing him a happy birthday.

I got him a baseball shaped basket with a book, stickers, a magnet, big league chew gum, and a pin that said "Today’s my Birthday". Then I cooked him whatever breakfast he wanted (pumpkin pancakes and bacon) and we played catch (free!). We also went on a treasure hunt around town and stopped off at friends and businesses we knew well. At each stop he received a small gift and a card with a clue to his next stop. Since it was baseball, he received: Bull Durham DVD, a gift certificate for a new baseball bat, A League of Their Own DVD, a new house key with the baseball team’s logo, and the Field of Dreams DVD.

Then we went to lunch at a favorite restaraunt where the owner gave him a baseball pinata I had stashed there. We went bat shopping and then he got to test it out at the local batting cage. Then we went to my parents house where he busted the pinata with his new bat only to find…lots of melted chocolate (oops!) and two tickets for the nights game. I did the birthday package at the nights game, so he got a tote bag, towel, shirt, and his name up on the big screen. For dinner, we dined on hot dogs and lemonade and of course, the team won for his b-day.

At the end of the day I took him to a Kodak kiosk and had him pick out his favorite pictures from the day. Then I put those into a small baseball photo album and gave that to him as his final gift.

DH got into brewing beer this year… he was so excited when i got him a homebrew kit for his birthday (they’re pretty affordable) and with all the accoutrements that go along with the kit and the ingredients, that could add up to 26 quickly.
