I havent been but we have been to Sandals in the Bahamas and one in Jamaica!!! Me and Fi love sandals and we are planning on going to Sandals Antigua in October for a belated honeymoon!!! I am so excited! I think you can not loose with either choice!
Well FI and I decided to wait until after the new year to fully decide on our honeymoon plans, since groupon and living social tend to have awesome deals. We finally decided on the Couples resort Negril, and somehow that ONE resort is already booked the ONE week we wanted! Lol. We just picked a different Couples resort (after comparing with the sandals prices) and I'm sure we'll still love it. Someone posted on a different board a while back that it doesnt matter WHICH resort you pick, they'll all be wonderful.
And btw, one of our BM/GM couples is going to Sandals Antigua in July and they are super excited. They researched it a lot so thats a great sign :-)
@MrsNerdy: I'm a reveiw freak & there are alot of good and alot of bad ones. But I guess it's also what you make of it & there will always be people who complain no matter what.
How could you not have a blast on a beach in the Caribbean?!?! We will be there July 23rd (provided we make the deposit tomorrow) maybe we'll bump into them!
@BlissfulMrs: thats when they are getting married too lol so maybe!
yeah always take reviews with a grain of salt. I realized this apartment hunting; most of the time people with good experiences dont think to go review, but people who had a negative experience do. there are always those people!
We actually did almost the same thing as you did! We booked St. Lucia through our travel agent, but then found out flights were almost twice as much. So we ended up going to Antigua and had an AMAZING time. Our travel agent explained that in St. Lucia they don't have all the restaurants in one Sandals, so you have to travel between the different resorts if you want to go to certain places. In Antigua, everything is right there. I think that it wouldn't have been as relaxing to go back and forth all the time. Maybe for another trip, but not for our honeymoon. There is so much to do at the resort and there are a ton of excursions you can go on too.
Now this isn't always true BUT I just booked my honeymoon for Sandals in St.Lucia and the price went WAY down from a couple months ago. You could wait if you really want St. Lucia. But all of the Sandals resorts are awesome so you will have a great time no matter where you choose to go!
My sister went to Antigua and LOVED it! She said that she would definitely go back!! Don't worry about it...it obviously wasn't meant to be. It's time for you guys to make new memories in a new location! :)
In order to get the best deals you need to either book super far in advance or wait until a few weeks before your travel date. Super far in advance and they benefit you to lock you down early. And a few weeks before the date, they want to sell you a ticket even for less profit to make a sale. Any time in the middle and they charge you more.
But of course with this in mind it may mean that your desired resort is full, but it doesn't matter. Within all 5 stars or 4 stars rated resorts they are the same. Yes the layout and exact type of specialty restaurants are different, but the quality, type of activities etc, are pretty much the same.
Don't stress out too much about it.
My friend went to Sandals in Antigua and LOVED it! Consider it a sign and go to Antigua! :)
@BlissfulMrs: Wait a second, wait a second, wait a second... are you telling me you can go to Antigua for 6 nights for $200? WOWWWWWW
@Grixis857: No... she said the price for St. Lucia went UP over $1000 from their original quote when the looked previously. Antigua was $800 less than the TOTAL cost - not just the price increase. Wouldn't it be nice if we could all have Caribbean getaways for $200?? I wish!! =)
@calypso0712: It is possible to get deals that cheap. Not in prime season, and you have to be flexible about the dates and the exact resort, but you can get all inclusives including airfaire for the $250 dollar range for a week.
I hate when prices fluctuate like that! I never know when the best time to book is. I just checked, and it looks like my roundtrip airfare cost has dropped by $200. I just booked it last month.
@Grixis857: I wish! The total ended up being about $3700, but that was after we discovered that sandals offers a 10% military discount. FI is in the Air Force... gotta love military!
@BlissfulMrs: Ohhh oh my gosh! I misread. You said it went up $1,000, not it went up TO $1,000. LOL I was really really confused as to how a 6 night stay ANYWHERE could be $800 cheaper than that! LOL my mistake
The same thing happened to me with Hawaii. We decided to wait to book and now the prices are super high. I guess we need to look at Antigua.

Back in October FI wanted to book our honeymoon for 7 nights at Sandals in St. Lucia, but a few places online said not to book your HM that far in advance. Soooo I told him to wait until January or February to book it. He contacted our travel agent today and the price went up a whoping $1087 because of rising fuel costs. Needless to say he's not too happy right now & I feel like a complete idiot and I'm so mad at myself. What a waste that we'd have to pay that much now!!
Now its about $800 cheaper for us to go to Sandals Antigua for 6 nights. Now that I've been forced to look at pics and reviews of Antigua I think I might actually prefer it over St. Lucia. FI & I have been to both St. Lucia & Antigua before on a cruise stop and loved them both... especially the very secluded beach we went to in Antigua.
Has this booking nightmare/stupidity (I feel stupid) happended to anyone? Has anyone been to Sandals Antigua???
