Hahaha, that totally sounds like DH. We employed a system that might help you guys.
First of all, find a handful of songs you like at different tempos. They should all be first-dance worthy. Then, play them and attempt a slow sway. Yes, it's boring to your guests, but they'll understand :). Just don't pick one over four minutes.
If you can't comfortably sway to it, chuck it. We ended up going with "Side by Side" by Kay Starr if you need somewhere to start the test!
I tried and tried to get him to go to dance lessons or just dance around the living room with me... no go. So, we just did the "walk around to the music" thing, and our amazing photographer managed to make us look like we actually knew what we were doing!
We were so busy smiling, laughing, looking at eachother and singing that no one (including us) thought about the actual lack of dance steps.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who had to work around this issue:) I'll let my photographer know that he;ll need to take some artistic liberties to get some good shots!
My fiance is a HORRIBLE dancer, and you can't get me off the dance floor! But the fact that he tries because he knows it's something that I love makes me adore him all the more. :)
Also, I tend to lead in slow songs....I can't help it!!!
We practiced a few moves off youtube. It actually worked out great. Several people asked where we took lessons.
Literally we practiced 3 moves. The dance (being sure to move around the room in full circles), a dip and another move. We just incporporated the three and we were done.
DH was great but my dad was a nightmare. I backled the whole thing- only the other dancers and those that knew him well could tell.
I think you'll be okay... I can't say I've ever been to a wedding where the groom was a very good dancer. ;)
Besides, it's all about having fun!

Sorry, there are no users yet.
So FI and I are starting to plan the "day of" events a little more in detail and I asked him how comfortable he was dancing together for our first dance. He looked flabbergasted and responded:
FI: "Why wouldn't I feel comfortable?"
Me: "We never really slow dance together, I thought you might be worried"
FI: "No way, I plan to dance like this... (running man, roger rabbit, pelvis thrusts, etc)"
Me: Dear God, this is a nightmare:)
Anyone else have SO's with two left feet? What are your plans for the first dance?
