Basically, I’m wondering if there’s something that you won’t let your SO touch, despite the fact that you’re perfectly ok with him/her someday raising children with you, paying off a mortgage together, etc.
For me, it’s my laptop. I let FI borrow it, and he left it on in the case (which can cause it to overheat, or if you drop it, your hard drive will most likely crash). He’s officially lost laptop privileges (I sound like his mom :/)
Is there something that you absolutely won’t let him use/touch or am I the only anal retentive one here?

Nope, he pretty much has all access. But he’s way more careful and neat then I am, so I don’t have to worry.

I prefer he not use my chef’s knives. They were really expensive, and he ruined one using it to cut open something in plastic. Since then, he knows just to use the regular knives :-), or my old culinary school set.

he’s not allowed to fold laundry. ever. he knows that if he DOES the laundry (normally i do it) he should lay everything out flat (and not on top of other pieces of clothes) so that i can fold it when i get home.
and i like to refer to myself as ‘just a little type a’!

Nope, everything is an open book. It’d be nice if he stopped going into the kitchen though, it seems like every time he does, he leaves behind a mess! 😉

@artbee: same here, he is way more neat than me and generally more careful about taking care of our stuff. he even cleans my e-ring once in awhile because i certainly never have. oops.

Um, no there is really nothing he isn’t allowed to touch. Although I’ll admit that I really don’t love when he uses my laptop and I sometimes get a little bit fidgety about it. My laptop is slow and old and kind of moody…. and it seems like EVERY time he uses it he crashes it.

I’m really not bothered since he’s the type A personality in our household and i’m the mess, but he may not touch the sewing scissors.

@blondeeebuckeye: oooh laundry–that is one thing I am actually quite anal about. He knows not to touch the laundry if I’m not around. He doesn’t really get the concept of sorting whites from colors, and he would just throw everything into the dryer with no regards to what might shrink. He doesn’t even fold things right. We decided a long time ago that laundry will always be my domain.

FI’s definitely type B. I’m relaxed about everything but the laptop :). It’s my one hang-up.

DH can touch anything! I don’t make things off limit to him, I’m not his mom!

@pb and j: exactly. he shrunk one of my sweaters once too (i left it “close” to the hamper and he thought it should go in the washing maching). needless to say, he was banned from the washing machine.
it works out for us though, because im banned from taking the trash out—i usually end up ripping the bag to shreds and i have a hard time putting it in the dumpster without trash falling all over the place because the dumpster is really tall (and im short).

my computer… thats a no go.. Simply because I have heaps of work on there and sometimes might have a program loading or sitting in the background. He just knows he has to ask if he can use it. I dont mind if he does, I just like to know first.
Also the laundry… thats my domain! simply because I like my jeans to fit and not be shrunk and things to be washed seperately. We have had to buy a small washing machine for my stuff alone as his work stuff is all grease and hard yakka and theres alot of it, so that washing machine can have a bit of a hammering. 🙂

Hahah this is great! The phrase “DONT TOUCH MY STUFF!!” leaves my mouth pretty often. I’m total type A – I’m worried he’s going to “mess things up”. and I’m just a private person in general so I don’t like it when he touches my stuff!!! Haha he does it a lot just to bother me because it’s not like I have anything to hide. I think I just never grew out of the “mine” stage. 😉

I have a few:
Laundry – He likes to wash everything on hot. I am also AR about the way my t-shirts are folded. I fold them around a clipboard, then they are always exactly the same size when you put them away.
Dishes – He never rinses them off before putting them in the dishwasher, ick.
Pans – I have a really nice set of pots and pans. Someone used a metal spatula in one of them so they have to use his old set until I can sneak all the metal utensils out of the house.
Laptop – He admits he is technology illiterate ( he just learned how to text LOL ), the last time he touched my computer I got a horrible virus that took me forever to get rid of.
