Tan if thats what you want. My FI likes me pasty as well.. but I feel better tanned, and I blush really easily so the tan will help me look less red while I walk down the aisle.
Tan away!
have you tanned before? i think that as long as its subtle, he prob wont even notice the difference - just don't hit "snookie" levels, thats where the bad stuff happens ;)
i would try it out for the shower and stuff and see what he thinks - odds are you wont look as "different" as he thinks
@Lovebird724: I've done a tanning bed before, and I love the way I look when I'm tan...but it takes FOREVER...and there's the whole skin cancer thing. But I've done the mystic tan too, and I love how I look.
I'll just tell the tanning place to make me look 'radiant', instead of baked...
Has he seen you after you've gotten a tan before? The first time I mentioned getting a tan to my FI he freaked out thinking that I would turn out orange or something. Since your wedding is still 3 months away, I would do a tester tan and see if he likes it.
Second the question if he has seen you tan before. I know my FI thinks it is 'ridiculous' that I spend money getting tan... but hey, I look thinner and feel better with some color.
I agree that 1 mystic won't make that much of a difference- you'll still look like you. I feel thinner when I'm tan so I'm doing it, plus I think it'll look great with my dress.
Personally, I hate spray tans. Have you done it before? Because I definitely would not do a test run before such imporant events.
Also, I was at a wedding last weekend where it was so painfully obvious that the bride had spray tanned. Honestly, it looked BAD. She was super tanned at a time of year when nobody else is and standing next to her husband she looked orange. So, if you do try the tanned look just be careful - you don't want to look like a martian next to your FI in pictures that will last a lifetime.
@napabridekelsey: yea, i think the "radiant" look is good - and will give you the glow youre looking for, but not the orange that hes worried about
@Miss Lilac: I've done mystic before, and I didn't look TOO tan, but I'm nervous about getting those drip marks or whatever. I've been pretty successful with doing at home tanning too, but it takes soooo long with the gradual ones.
And to answer you other ladies, yes, he's seen me tan before...and he doesn't really notice. So I guess if it's not TOO tan, then he won't run from me at the altar, haha.
@napabridekelsey: If your wedding is in August why don't you just work on a gradual natural tan? Then you can definitely avoid drip marks (ugh, just saying that reminds me why I don't like spray tans - sorry! I'm probably biased on this one!)or whatever else.
i'm pretty pale - but i tan well, i just lose it really quickly.i like my pale skin but i always feel thinner and just all around better with a little glow and for me thats enough to make me want to do it.
@Miss Lilac: I live in Oregon...nuff said :/. Plus I live in an apartment complex, so there's not really anywhere I could go out and get a tan naturally...
Well, I just remembered we're doing our honeymoon 3 weeks before the wedding (yes, before!) to Mexico...so I can def. get a tan that way...hm...I might have to do that! I burn really easily, so I'm nervous about laying out/having a low SPF on..
@napabridekelsey: Getting a natural tan is just as unsafe as laying in a tanning bed. Get yourself a spray tan before the honeymoon as a test run, and if you like it go again before the wedding.
@MrsMcGyro: okay good call.
Should I try getting a spray tan before the showers? I was thinking maybe getting it on Wednesday (the showers are friday night/saturday) so if it's awful, it would have faded a little by then?
I would get one before the showers-- that way, you can see how it looks in pictures, too-- sometimes, it looks differently in person than it does on film, so you can see if it's something you'll regret when you look at your wedding pictures :)
I would try it before the shower, a few days before sounds like a good idea. Spray tans come in "levels" (not sure if someone mentioned that before me), so to be safe don't go for the deepest color. Then you can gage how much you like it.
I've heard from wedding photographers that spray tans photograph badly so I wouldn't do it for the wedding. If you do, I'd spring for an airbrush tan where the aesthetician can create the most natural look (for example, can do your face a little lighter than your body). Here in LA, it costs about $60.

Hi ladies!
So latest wedding conundrum...
I was talking about getting a mystic tan for my upcoming bridal shower and bachelorette party, and FI says "Noooo I like you how you are! Don't get tan!". So of course I panic, and ask if he doesn't want me tan at the wedding, and he responds "No, I want you to look like yourself!"
I KNOW that I look thinner/my arms look more toned, and I look healthier when I have a tan (just a spray tan!), but I want FI to think I look good on our wedding day, obvs.
What should I do? Test out the spray tan, and see how he reacts? I don't want to be pasty on our wedding day!
