I ordered a tulle birdcage veil for my reception. I tried it on, loved it, and then put it back in the USPS box for safe keeping. Last night before bed I realize I didn’t see that box sitting in the front room anymore… FI had just finished putting the recycling out, and there were a lot of boxes to break down since we’ve had several registry gifts delivered. FI said he hadn’t seen my box, but we went through the recycling and found it- but no veil!
I checked the trash, and it was in there. Along with the moldy leftovers I threw out and dust from sweeping the floor. He hadn’t seen it and thought it was just some tissue paper sitting in a box 🙁
I started to get upset because it was $60 in the trash but he quickly pulled it out. It was still in its bag! No trash got on the tulle and aside from being a little crumpled, it was as good as new.
Moral of the story: don’t leave your wedding accessories around helpful, recycling fiances and, if you do, keep them in sealed bags!
The veil that almost wasn’t:

@BooRadley: Oh my gosh, I would have cried! And probably yelled…just a little bit. YIKES! So glad you recovered it!

@pengoala: lol, oh there was a bit of crying and panicked yelling. I made him look at me in the veil to confirm that it wasn’t ruined, so I guess that’s one thing he won’t be suprised with on the wedding day. I couldn’t be mad at him though since I never help with the recycling!

My fiance did the same thing with an entire shopping bag full of hair/makeup products I had just bought. I thought I was going nuts and then finally thought to look in the dumpster :O
So glad your veil is allright!

That’s too funny – and what a close call! I probably would have done a bit of freaking out and yelling too. Glad it all worked out!
