He said the other day he would like for us to have a band. Huh! what! On our meager budget? Not happening. But then he said he knew a few garage bands that were pretty good (he dabbles in the entertainment industry). I told him he is in charge of finding, booking and paying for said band… I am not adding it to my budget. We already have a DJ.
Also, today he said he would prefer chair covers for the chairs. So now I have to find out from our caterer how much to rent these…. not sure how much that will add to my budget but it’s something I like so I don’t mind paying as long as it’s cheap! However I was going to do without.
Have your fi’s added anything to your budget?

Wow a band huh? In our area that is about $10,000….not a small addition to any budget. Perhaps your FI isn’t really aware of the budget versus actual costs for wedding related items. I know my DH didn’t have a clue how much things were so perhaps your man is in the same boat.
Thankfully my DH didn’t have much of an opinion on things other than alcohol. His expensive taste for the higher end drinks did add several thousand to our final cost but we didn’t really have a definite budget so I can’t hold that against him.

@bridalprincess: He wants a DJ and a band?

I don’t think he even knows about costs or what my budget is. He thinks because they are garage type bands they will be cheaper (and because he knows them). If he can pull it off, my hats off to him but yeah, he wants a DJ AND a band.

@Pokemon: I am saving all my money and paying for the wedding and I set the budget. He is taking care of all the household bills, etc (I was a sahm mom so while he worked, I handled the finances). Since I got a job to help with wedding finances, we decided that I would pay for the wedding with what I earn. Also, I set the budget because I am doing the majority of the planning and I am more frugal than he is (and a control freak). He trusts my judgement and knows we’re on a tight budget so he is willing to pay for a band IF he can find one good and cheap.

@axeyourmakeupkit: You know… a band that practices in their garage (that’s how most bands start right?) Nothing wrong with that. Theyre just local bands (no one famous) that are good at what they do, they get small gigs and are usually cheap. Like I said if he can pull it off I am all for it. I was just surprised when he mentioned that as he left all the planning up to me (which is fine by me).
