jsloops:  I think something like yellow or grey would be beautiful…..  Or black.

jsloops:  I agree with the red being patriotic. I think the purple (with it being in the same color group as the blue) orange roses are beautiful as well

I would punch FH in the throat if he said he doesn’t like our colors! Are you f’in kidding me?! Then you go re-do all the invites, ribbon wands, guestbook and buy all the dresses again! Does he actually realize what a disaster that would be to change them now or was he just thinking out loud?

Red and blue makes me think nautical but patriotic comes to mind as well.

He’s being a giant twit. Someone who is barely involved in the planning process does not get to step in LATE in the game, AFTER things have been purchased and be like “meh…..I don’t dig it, let’s change everything”. I’m sorry, that’s ridiculous.

Does he actually have a reason other than “meh….I just changed my mind, and you know, don’t care about all the wasted effort and expense that’s already gone into this”. Because my first thought would be that he’s be incredibly inconsiderate by raising this *now*.

What about yellow? Sunflowers and daisies etc would look super cute with blue dresses!

jsloops:  I think our FIs must be conspiring against us together. Mine just told me he hated all of our colors. I’ve been planning for 8 mos and anytime I ask his opinion it’s “I don’t care” or “whatever you think” etc. I wanted to kick him so hard when he argued about colors!!!!

That being said, if you’re ok with adding an accent color, I don’t personally like the navy with purple or red just because they’re all such dark colors. But if I had to choose, I’d choose the red.

If done right it doesn’t have to look patriotic at all. Avoid stars and stripes, obviously. Also, and this is going to sound weird, avoid having the same amount of red as you do blue. If the blue is your mutual favorite color, have mostly that with small accents of red. Also avoid using white other than your wedding dress (assuming you’re having a white dress). Personally I LOVE this color combination and if there was any way it could fit in with the vision I have of my wedding I would be using it myself. Here’s an example I found (minus so much white on the cake. Like I said, to avoid looking patriotic use white as little as possible):You could also do navy and pink to avoid the patriotic look, and it would take some of the trickiness out of it that red could present. Think a color scheme like this:
