Vodka and crystal light usually works well for me when i want a low-cal, no sugar drink mix. I really like gin+lemonade mix+sprite zero. We call them crum-bubblies and they are fantastic.

Aspartame is only “thought” to cause cancer in really large quantities like, in rats. If anything, fake sugar can cause a little bit of, er, loose bowels. Energy drinks and vodka are a really bad combination, by the way, if you’re worried about his health. It causes the vodka to surge into your bloodstream and makes you drunker than you are and causes your heart to race. Seriously you don’t have to worry about crystal light =]. Does he like other liquors besides vodka? He could do infused vodka plus water or sparkling water or club soda.

You don’t really have a lot of options if he doesn’t think soda is strong enough. You could use a syrup, but if it’s not sugarfree, it’s a moot point. Soda has a ton of calories, too. In fact, any mixer except water (ew!) is going to have a ton of sugar, in addition to the sugar carbs already in the liquor. Even with my extensive bar background, I’m completely pulling a blank! Unless he likes, say, flavored rums, but even then….martinis, etc, but those all have a lot of calories ounce for ounce. Anything with sour mix is super bad, too.

If he’s concerned about calories for weight, switching to michelob ultra is your best bet. Or wine.

as a former bartender, i’d suggest him to try either vodka + cranberry or even go a further step and just order a dry martini to eliminate juices altogether.

try posting your question on a bartenders’ forum somewhere. one of my faves is http://www.webtender.com/iforum/

good luck! Cool

What about Vodka and diet coke, or diet sprite?  Vodka cokes are like a staple in the UK – you can buy it premied in the grocery store!

I am a Vodka, diet tonic with a tonnnnnn of limes in my drink, yummy yummy.  That will be my drink right before the wedding ceremony. Only bad thing is bars don’t offer diet tonic water.

I second dereksbride2b.  To order it out, just get club soda instead.  It’s not quite as sweet that way, but it is about as low calorie as you can get and still have alcohol.

He could try adding a few frozen berries to a vodka + club soda mix. Or even cutting the pineapple juice with some sode would cut back on the sugar content!

Hmm,  I didn’t see at first that he was against the soda, but maybe a splash of grenadine or chambord (raspberry liquer) or other liquer for a little more flavor.

Vodka collins: 2oz vodka, 1oz lemon juice, 1oz simple syrup (or 1 tsp sugar); over ice, topped off with soda water. Super delicious and refreshing drink. Calories only in the vodka and the sugar.

My healthy bridesmaid turned me onto a great drink at my hen party. It was a bottle of Teja Tea or maybe Teva tea cold with vodka over ice. She came up with this when she was searching for exactly what you wanted for your FI. It was pretty good.

Good luck!

Oo that reminds me! A friend and I used to make tea-tinis back in college. We liked the pink grapefruit green tea with vodka. That was pretty tasty. Can’t order that out, but it’s a good option. Now they make sweet tea vodka in a bottle that is 70 proof and that stuff is really good with some light lemonade or just over ice!
