It sounds like a good call on his part… do you really want to get married during the most trialling time of your relationship? What happens if things don’t get better?

I know this must be so tough to deal with, but if you guys are fighting often and you’re feeling insecure as a result of the relationship then a wedding is not the most logical next step. You don’t get married first and then work on yourself later; that’s a recipe for disaster. You marry the person for who they are right then and if he’s not confident about it then it’s best to wait. Sorry 🙁

Don’t get married to avoid embarrassment. You haven’t described much reason to get married … You’re barely talking and not having sex. Neither of you are happy. You need to think more logically about this decision.

Nowhere in your post does it say that you’re upset about him postponing becase you want to spend your life with him and are scared to lose him. That’s valuable information… Fear of embarrassment is a terrible reason to go through with a wedding that shouldn’t happen.

Help77: Honestly, it sounds like if you want to get married, you two should go to some couples therapy. Maybe he’s just freaked out with the recent events.

Help77: I’m sorry you’re going through this, but if you’re afraid that he’ll freak out again in 5-6 months, what’s to say that he won’t do that if you’re married? You shouldn’t be getting married with this much uncertainty from either of you. Work through it… the best you can. I just don’t advise getting married if this is how things are. It won’t “fix” how he feels about things. It won’t “fix” your relationship.

It sounds like he is having cold feet and doesn’t want to get married. You should talk to your fiance asap.
