Okay bees… HELP! I love my FH to death, but his last name is killing me. My first name is Audrey and I won’t say his last name, but it rhymes with my name ending in “rey.” Kind of like Julia Gulia from “The Wedding Singer” movie. What to do? Should I just deal with it? I don’t want to do a hyphenated name, so I guess I have no other choice. I guess it’s all in the name of love!

You could always keep your last name. If my first name sounded terrible with his last, I’d definitely consider just keeping my last name. But if taking his last name is really important to you, then I guess, yes, you do just have to “deal with it.” Unless he’s willing to take your last name as well. 🙂

I say hyphenate your maiden name with his last name, and with your name in the middle, it will sound better. ‘
Now i have an issue with my soon to be last name as well. My Fiance last name is pronounced Shale. My name is Sandy. I will then be Sandy Shale *sigh*. Of course this is better than the last guy I dated. His last name was Beach-no joke.

Oh wow! I guess I’m not the only one with last name woes. Sandy Beach would’ve been pretty funny, though.

Do you have a middle name? Maybe you can start using it with your first name to kind of break up the rhyming thing happening? So you could be somethign like “Audrey Marie Gobrey”. I just made up a last name so hope Im not offending anyone!

I have a friend who opted to keep her maiden name instead of changing it to “Testa”. She said she wanted to keep her writing name- I don’t see why you couldn’t just keep your maiden name 😉
And I think “Sandy Beach” would be an AWESOME name!!

Yea…it’ll be okay..You could do First name, Maiden Name, Last name and it would even out the sounds a bit. Good luck 🙂

I feel your pain girl. My name rhymes with DH’s Last name. And if I hyphenated my initials would be H.O.E… FML

I don’t think I’m taking FH’s last name either and I know his family will have a cow. I’m an actor and no one would take the name seriously. The last name is a variation of, and sounds like, a furry little ground-dwelling creature. D: I have a Spanish name and can not begin to comprehend how ugly the two sound together. You are not alone!

@SandyThePoet: lol at Sandy Beach. Love it!
OP i think you should just deal with it. Its kind of funny but your Fiance might be offended that you are embarrased to use his name. After you get used to it, it wont be that big of a deal.

LOL! I once knew a woman named Carrie Larry.

Fiance and i had discussed it once, but i will be taking his name.

@SandyThePoet: If it makes you feel better, the lady I go to at my bank is married and her name is Coral Reef.
I would be nervous about hyphenating or keeping my last name, one of my good friends did that with her husband’s name second, so she could still have her last name but be “Mrs.”, well now people call her “Miss Hislastname”. Its kind of hard to control what people end up calling you anyways. Whether you change your name or not, people are going to address you by his name.
I think it’s cool when people make up a new last name by mixing their two names together and both taking it.

From the person who just married someone with the last name of a not so nice adjuctive I know it sucks. I still took it though because I know it meant so much to him. During our engagement the amount of people who laughed when I told them my future last name was horrific, but in the end so what! If people at our age are still picking on us because of our names they certainly have more issues than we do!
Good luck!! Just keep telling yourself you are marrying the man not the last name, consider it one of his bad habits!!
