Hey Hive! My name is Miss Taco Night, and I’m a lurker on this board who’s decided to take the plunge and start posting.
Why Taco Night, you ask? Mr. TN and I love ourselves some Mexican food, and we have taco nights at least one a week. They are a BFD… he makes excellent guacamole, I bring the coronas and limes (because tragically, he is a much better cook) and we prep the rest of the stuff together. It’s fun, it’s laid-back, it’s very us.
So we’ve picked a date just after Cinco de Mayo for our wedding: May 14, 2011. 5/14/11 isn’t exactly the “cute date” I’d always pictured (my parents got married on 8/4/84 and I loved that) but our marriage crazed friends stole 10/10/10 a month before we got engaged! Of course, they were engaged on 9/9/09 and we got engaged on 10/16/09 so maybe it’s fitting… we seem destined for unattractive numerals.
The appearance of our date aside, I’m super excited! We’re both grads of the University of Pittsburgh, so we’re getting married at Heinz Chapel on campus and Oakland is absolutely bee-yoo-tiful in mid-May. Here are a few shots of Heinz Chapel:
Ahh, I am in love! There are so many jewel tones, it has some of the longest stained glass windows in the world, and it’s just breathtaking!
I’ve picked the reception site too, but I don’t want to overload this post. What did you look for/ what are you looking for in a ceremony site? Did you search for a wedding date that “looked good”? I’m excited to dive into the mix here 🙂

First of all, welcome to WeddingBee and Congratulations on your engagement!! The church you have picked is majestic and I cannot wait to see what you have lined up for your reception. It’s sounding really good right now!
I love the idea of taco night! So much fun!!! I live in San Diego so taco shops are on every corner and it is actually quicker and cheaper to buy. But my FI and I often have appetizer night or other theme nights (breakfast for dinner, personal pizzas, etc.) to make it fun 🙂 I am getting married the weekend before you and embracing the Cinco de Mayo festivities for my wedding. We are having a outdoor fiesta for our reception complete with taco bar and a frozen margarita machine. I love what you have posted so far so I cannot wait to see more 🙂
P.S. Our wedding date is also our anniversary date. I guess we just got lucky. Also our ceremony, reception and lodging site are all at the same venue. It is a farmhouse vacation rental.

Thursday night is pizza night in our house 🙂 I could live without it, but FI LOVES pizza. The foods I love usually are horrible for you…such as Oreos (my mom and have a conversation about different kinds of Oreos and ways to eat them at least once a week, no joke. Last night after Pizza I tried Chocolate Oreos dipped in peanut butter. O…M…G.)
My friend is getting married on 9/10/11 and she hates it! She had to schedule her fall wedding around HUNTING OPENERS and thats the day that worked. It is almost impossible for her to book anything and she started trying at least 15 months out! CRAZY.
That church is breathtaking! Welcome and Congrats 🙂
