@MrsDJ:  Have you thought about asking your mom or another relative how that would work? I’m seeing my mom in a few weeks and need to ask her about some of the traditional stuff.

unfortunately, i’ve never heard of a coin sponsor.  the term is really coin bearer and is supposed to be a young boy.

is there any reason why you want the person to be a “sponsor” instead of a  “bearer”?  but it’s your wedding; you can do anything you want.  it just wouldn’t tie into tradition very well.  and if the person is moved up the processional and become tied in with the other secondary sponsors (veil, cord, and candles), then you would need a pair of them now.  the pair would then need to come up to the altar at a certain point in time like the other secondary sponsors.  but what would they do with the coins up there?

please note that i use the term “need” loosely here.  like i said, it’s your event, and you can certainly do anything with it.  but be ready for clueless looks when this new take on an old tradition is introduced into your ceremony.

@MrsDJ:  we wanted as many people as possible involved in our church rites too.  for some cousins that were not part of the bridal party, we had them do the offertory.  we were able to get 8 people involved in that!  a pair of cousins for fruits, another pair for flowers, another pair for candles, and yet another pair for bread/wine.

@MrsDJ I’m actually of thinking of doing the same thing, we only have one ring/bible bearer and I don’t want to burden the little 3 year old boy with carrying the coins as well!  I think it’ll be nice to add my fiance’s aunt – just don’t know who we would pair her with yet.  I know I’ve seen some people have coin sponsors also, but was just wondering what you ended up doing?
