How long did it take you from the time you first went to a venue before you decided to book? How about for photography?
Venue shopping has been somewhat more difficult but for photography, it was a bit easier and I was able to narrow it down after my first meeting and after 2 weeks, I think I have my photographer selected.
For our venue, it took us a couple weeks to book it. We really loved our venue and wanted to give other locations a fair chance so we looked at a few different locations to make sure we made a fair decision.
For our photographer it also took us a couple of weeks. We wanted to meet with atleast 3 photgraphers. One of the photographers we wanted was booked for our date (06.07.08) so we had referrals from them. It was from this referral that we chose our photographer. The one photographer that I had my heart set on was available but we as a couple didn't mesh well with him. It felt "too professionnal", my hubby and I are fun people and he wasn't connecting with us on that level, so we decided against hiring him. The photographer we chose was PERFECT for us..she has an amazing eye and she feels like family. We are doing a Trash the Dress with her in Sept and I think I'll do some Boudoir pics with her next year.
Wellllll, it took us 7 months to decide on a venue :) We visited a million, and researched more. It was a long hard road, but so worth it! The complete story and reviews of the top contenders are on my blog if you're interested.
...and it took us 8 to find a photographer. Although, truly, our photographer found us. We are the recipients of a RENTwedding from Dan Chen of Chennergy - a truly generous gift!
I guess the moral of my story is, sometimes it takes a long time for a good reason!
@danathebride: I was curious to learn about your extensive wedding venue research, so I quickly scanned through your blog. I was so excited to see your final choice, The Bungalow Club!!! Yippee!! That place is really special to my fiance and I. It was the site of our first date and our first kiss (outside in the patio!). It's such a beautiful and magical location. What an awesome choice!!!!
As far as venue shopping is concerned, it took us about a month. We only visited about 5 or 6 venues, then we made our final decision. Photography didn't take too long either. I got a number of quotes from photographers based on their websites, and most of them were REALLY expensive! In the end, we only ended up actually meeting with one photographer. He was so awesome - we booked him!

photography didn't take long, just got a recommendation from a knottie and after meeting with them, i was sold.
Our take on our wedding has been a lot of "yeah, that'll work" instead of looking through several vendors. (project wedding helped a lot though!)
