cbgg:  I’m also from Vancouver and going through a similar relationship. We started our process earlier this year, but then decided to file an adjustment of status. So now I am living in the US with my husband while I wait for the paperwork to clear. My interview won’t be until next year, but in the meantime, I have applied for authorization to travel and a work permit. Hope all goes well with your interview!

19 months!!! Hearing that and that it’s almost to the end makes me feel sooooo relieved for you and your husband!! Such great news! (:

I just submitted my prospective marriage visa for Australia less than 2 weeks ago, I certainly am hoping we get it much much faster than that, our date of intended marriage is on early april next year.

All the best!

Congratulations!! 😀 It’s a very similar situation to me and FI; we were together 7 years without living together before he left from here (Montreal) for the US to study last year. I’m trying to figure out how I’ll join him after I’m done my masters… In order to get my license in his state, I need to do a 2-3 months internship, but I need a work visa for that, and I can’t get a work visa before finding the employer! (and no one in my field accepts candidates without a green card or work visa first, they don’t sponsor immigrants :s) There are also sparse jobs in my field around his area sigh. So I just don’t think about it and concentrate on finishing my studies first. And now that you say it took you almost 2 years to get a visa… I’m feeling down now xD

Congratulations! I remember all that waiting, feeling like it would never end…my husband was approved for K-1 Fiance Visa in 2012 and has now been here with me for 2 1/2 years! 🙂

good luck!!! My DH and I also did long distance. I live in Ireland with him now but we want to move back eventually and are thinking about starting the process. It’s so tedious!!! Best wishes xoxo!

cbgg:  Thank you so much for all the info!!! This is so useful!! I might be able to get a TN visa since I’m from Canada and I’m a pharmacist, but I think I still need an employer to sponsor me :s and there are seriously no jobs in pharmacy where my FI lives (too many pharm schools and too many graduates) I’ll keep this website in my bookmarks!! Thank you again!! : )

cbgg: Hmm I will have to see how complicated it is but hopefully it’s as simple as you describe it!!! Thank you for your help!! Congrats for your visa as well, it must’ve been hard work but worth it in the end!!! 😀

Congrats!! I’m the opposite, I’ll be applying for PR status to immigrate to Canada after we get married at the beginning of 2015. Judging from the CBP website it looks like it takes about 2.5 years once a completed application is turned in to be granted PR status. I’m applying from outside, and still have 2.5 years of schooling left so it happens to work for us hahaha. Hopefully things go just as smoothly for us as well!
