I ran for local office on the November ballot (still awaiting results–about 500 votes behind with 75K ballots still to be counted!!), so I haven’t done much planning. We got some of the big stuff booked: Valley Green Inn for the venue, City Tavern for the Rehearsal Dinner, and the DJ. We’re talking to a couple photographers and are hoping to have that sealed soon. Now that the election is over I want to dig in to the planning, especially since we’re planning from 3000 miles away (I grew up in Philly and we live in San Francisco). Since most of the guests are going to be traveling to Philly, and some for the first time, I am looking to block hotel rooms in Old City. I’ve gotten two hotels blocked so far and am thinking of doing a third in Chestnut Hill and/or near the airport for those who want to rent a car but don’t want to pay for parking. Here are my next goals for the next month or so:
1. Research affordable shuttle options between Old City hotel and Valley Green Inn (open to suggestions!!)
2. Find a nonreligious officiant (JOP or judge perhaps?)
3. Finish wedding website (We’re going to get e-shots in Philly when we come in in January, but I don’t want to wait on professional pics to finish the website)
4. Pull the trigger on ordering the invites I designed on minted.com
5. Design my guest book idea on shutterfly
6. Try on some dresses so I know what styles are best for me, then order one on ebay. 🙂
7. Talk to someone about flowers (any recommendations?)
Anything I’m missing?? Any and all suggestions appreciated!

- Wedding: October 2013 - The Down Town Club, Philadelphia
Just wanted to chime in and say Hi, as we have a lot in common.
I’m on the West Coast (LA), but marrying in Philly.
I’m getting my dress from Jasmine’s Bridal.
Both my STD’s and invites are from Minted.
For shuttles, we are looking at Cescpahe Trolley, bc my venue is Cescaphe, and so far they have been amazing to work with. Hoping to avoid needing transport all together since we will be marrying in the Independence Hall area, and hoping to get room blocks in three hotels right there.
Have you had a hard time dealing with hotels? I’ve been dealing with them for weeks (granted, it was the holidays), and still haven’t received all my info from one of them.
Anyway, just wanted to say HI!
I’ll be looking forward to following your Jasmine’s dress journey!

@Reeniero: Thanks for commenting! We DO have a lot in common! 🙂
I think we’re going to go with the yellow school bus company. They’ll do 2 buses for about $600. Alternately, Philly Trolley Works can do a minibus for the bridal party (we’re leaving in the afternoon to do pics around the city) and a white school bus with tinted windows for about $1100. We haven’t decided if it’s worth the extra money yet.
I actually had a really easy time with hotels with one exception. I have blocks at Penn’s View (which is where we’re and most of the bridal party and friends will be staying) and at Independence Park near City Tavern. I also have a block at the Best Western Widener University, since it’s much less expensive and has free parking but is still easy access to the city. I wanted to get a block at the Chestnut Hill hotel since it’s about 10 minutes from the venue in Fairmount Park and has free parking, but their policy is to charge for all of the blocked rooms, even if no one ends up getting them, so we would have been responsible for any rooms in the block that went unreserved. Since we don’t know who wants to stay where, I didn’t do the block but I did list the hotel as an option and explained that there is no block so if people want to stay there they should book it early.
We’re going to Philly in a couple of weeks and will talk with a potential florist and officiant. I was referred to a florist from a gal on the Knot who lives here in the Bay Area and is also getting married in Philly–she said that this woman was good to work with long distance.
I’m slightly worried about the Jasmine’s journey! They have taken so long to respond to emails, and I submitted the order form last week and still haven’t heard back. At this point, if they start the order today I’ll get the dress with only a couple of weeks to spare before the wedding. I might call them tomorrow or Monday about it.
Look forward to staying in touch!
