So, I have been lurking on this website for about 4 months now, and have hesitated to join just because I am so busy but mostly because I lost the charger for my camera and didn’t want to start posting without the ability to put photos up…But here I am, 4 months later, new camera charger and a little less busy.
Well, let’s just get right to it! I’ve been planning my wedding for sometime now (off and on since I was 14, to be exact), and thus had already layed a foundation of ideas for myself by the time I actually got engaged (this last summer).
I am a very crafty person, and some who know me might even consider that an understatement. Moreover, I am at my heart a true artist, and it seems to seep into every area in my life, therefore my wedding planning agenda is very DIY intensive.
Here is a list of my DIY ambitions:
- mine and my bridesmaid’s bouquets (coffee filter roses and artificial greens)
- Bridesmaid’s and flower girl’s dresses (pattern, fabric, sewing machine…you get the idea)
- centerpieces (no brainer)
- table runners
- my veil
- the wedding cake…and (drumroll…)
- MY WEDDING DRESS!!!
Now…I know what you are thinking: “Ms. Barbell, you should be institutionalized”
I know, I know…and you are not the first one to say that, but here’s the deal:
I’m really cheap-I mean frugal, and it just wouldn’t be me if I didn’t have my hand in everything, literally. Besides, I am starting very early and am already making headway. “Well, how in the world are you going to make your own dress?” you ask, well first of all, I have been sewing for 15 years, and my portfolio includes a VERY complicated prom dress…and the pattern I have chosen is very simple, which I already have purchased as well as the fabric 🙂 But, I will post progress on that later, today I want to introduce my very first bridesmaid bouquet, composed of hand made coffe filter roses, Walmart and dollar store fillers, all amounting to…$4 a piece…
I am very happy with the results. There are 5 cf roses in the bm’s bouquets, and I will have 10-12 solid yellow ones in mine. I added the lily of the valley today from walmart, and I absolutely love it 🙂 More to come….
