Must have been an older stone.  The newer ones shouldn’t look that way at all.

@ChicFoodist:  It’ll only cost you ~$30 or so to return a loose moissy to BTD or MoissaniteCo. I ordered from both of them and it was worth the nominal fee just so I could see what the fuss was all about. If I had ordered a moissy ring sight unseen, I would have been very disappointed. I shipped both moissies back via FedEx, so I bet Canada Post would have been even cheaper.

@ChicFoodist:  One of my close friends wore her ring for the first time recently, and it was my first time seing a Moissanite.

I was BLOWN AWAY. I assumed it would look cheap. Or fake. Or dull after 6 years of ownsership.

If was STUNNING. Gorgeous. I was like “So. Why the HELL did FI spend 7K on my center, exactly?”

Her stone was the same size (1ct), and even more glittery! And not bad, fake glittery. Glittery like my ring is right after a professional cleaning! I am STILL amazed.

Hello OP,

I understand your frustration! If ever you are heading to Montreal for any reason, feel free to PM me! I’ll direct you to a Charles & Covard registered dealer, you’ll be able to see any type of stone ans stones set in settings you like 🙂 If you do it early enough, you can even ask them if they have the specific setting you want in stock so you can see it in person!

Quality for moissy seems to be all over the place.  Cut and color seems to vary a lot (especially the older stock).  It does seem that moissy tends to chip (probably because of the cut) as well, so if you think the ring was chipped, it probably was.

@ChicFoodist:  Hmmm, I don’t know of any jewellery shops in the area that display moissanite right in the store. I know there are a couple of online shops that sell the stones though.

I don’t know how far you’re willing to travel, but Zoran Designs in Hamilton sells moissanite right in the store.

@ChicFoodist:  same here, I would love a moissanite store that I could go to. I’m also pretty weird about settings – I always think they look different IRL as compared to their photo.

definitely don’t base your opinion on one stone though! there are definitely some old crappy moissanites floating around in this world. do you think you could get a jeweler to order a few different ones for you to see? maybe they’ll have some kind of insider deal that we don’t get access to? as in, maybe they would get cheaper shipping or not get dinged with a restocking fee if they needed to return them.

@ChicFoodist:  Haha, stupid holiday! What a coincidence, though. They’re right downtown on King St, so I don’t think they’re hard to find. Here’s their website: http://www.zorandesigns.com/. I know FH had looked there for my ring (didn’t end up buying from them though), and he told me they do a lot of custom jewellery, so they will design a custom ring setting for you. I think he went there because the place is run by a Serb family, lol.

If you want to see some examples and do a consultation, you can call them to make an appointment. Talk to Maja, I think she handles all of that (according to my FH).

@ChicFoodist:  I saw/heard about moissanite for the first time when a coworker got a 1 ct RB unenhanced. Her ring is GORGEOUS. After seeing it and hearing all about it I was sold. I did a ton of research here and got a FB cushion. If you love sparkles you will most like love it! Check out the videos on Joe Schubach’s youtube channel. I’m now getting an OEC, here’s a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHIcBWCbek4&feature=youtu.be

Super excited!

@ChicFoodist:  you’re very welcome! by the way, I’m not going to get into the whole diamond vs. moissanite argument- but I saw it in person and it is not beautiful. It’s breath-taking! I personnally prefer stones with some warmth (even diamonds), but even my mother, who is an old-school diamond only forever and ever type, who has an E colored ring and wants stones WHITE, not colourless, was amazed! She’s planning on getting a RHR made with moissanite 🙂

GAH! I wish they had a brick and mortar store! Or something! ANYTHING! That would have helped me so much in picking out my ring honestly. But I am so happy with my moissanite and I ordered it without seeing a cushion moissanite in person. Most people do assume it’s a diamond which annoys me a little, but who cares in the big scheme of things..
