Girl, I'm so sorry to hear about your father's passing. It must be so difficult for you, and I am glad you allowed yourself the time away from wedding planning. He is looking down on you as you begin your dress search, certainly!
This being said, I actually love this dress as is. I feel like the skirt is dramatic enough, that I'm not sure the dress needs too much more bling. Have you tried the dress on yet? I'd love to see you in it!
If you love trendy and want to wear something current then I wouldnt commit. I had the same issue when I got engaged. I didnt want to start looking yet at fear that it wouldnt be in style at the time of my wedding or that I would find something I liked better. I would hold off a little longer especially if you want to change so much. That means you could find a dress thats better suited for you with those alterations you want.
@pengoala thank you so much for your condolences. He passed a month after I got engaged and it was just so shocking, but I'm happy he gave us his blessings.
I haven't tried it on yet, but I will this weekend. It took forever to find a store with a sample. Lol I love sparkle so I was considering adding some to the dress, but you are right the skirt is very dramatic which I love.
@mrswilliams I get nervous that my dress won't be ready in time lol I started researching when Spring/Summer 2012 designs would be shown so I can better see if I can wait a bit longer. Lol I thought I was the only person with this concern because most brides I know always emphasize looking classic/timeless for their wedding, but that isn't a huge concern for me.
I agree, if you want something current I would wait a while since you have quite a way to go yet =) and as far as the alterations, sweethearts are my favorite and I think they look great on all dresses and I don't think I would do any embellishments because it looks great as is

After many unforseen events in the past year I'm finally ready to start my dress search. I took a year off of wedding planning and pushed the date back a year after my father died in February 2010. The anniversary of his death is coming up, but I'm more at peace with it and can now start planning. Before he died he told me I should wear a fitted dress lol and I feel like this was his final attempt at being involved in my wedding. So I found this dress which I absolutely love, but would like to add some embellishments to it on the neckline and have the neckline made into a sweetheart. I haven't tried it on yet, but will soon. My wedding will be in the French Riviera June 2012, but I'm wondering if it's too soon to commit to a dress. Do you think the alterations I have in mind to add some bling is over the top for the dress? Is it too soon to commit? I love trendy and would want to wear something that's very current.
