I’ve been seriously struggling with my weight since starting grad school 2 years ago. Between the stress and the meal plan and going out to eat a lot while dating my now Fiance, I gained 30 pounds fast in the first semester. I changed up my lifestyle enough to stop gaining weight, but I couldn’t seem to lose anything.
As a last ditch effort, 2 weeks before our engagement party, 2 months before a cruise FI and I are going on and a little more than a year before our wedding I decided to give up carbs. I researched all the low-carb / high-protein diets out there and decided that for me, Atkins will work best because I know I tend more toward the healthier foods and Atkins seemed to give the most sensible plan for adding carbs back into your diet slowly so that you don’t gain back more weight once you stop. I’m not a huge carb person, if there’s anything I could blanket give up, that’s it. But FI is a pescetarian, so admittedly, I’ve been eating a lot of carbs in the past 2 years because I often want to eat the same things as him.
Well – in just over a week I’ve lost 8 pounds. I realize this is mostly water weight – but that is still huge for motivation for me. I’m already starting to see the effects of the diet in my face and the way my jeans fit! In addition, since I’m really being careful about drinking lots of water – my skin, which has had lots of problems with blackheads and the occasional pimple in the past year or so has completely cleared up. Way to get pretty skin just in time for our engagement party!!
