I once met someone who had the most interesting “How I Found Out I’m Pregnant” story. Throughout the first three months of her pregnancy, she took home pregnancy tests only to receive BFNs (big fat negatives). In disbelief of the home testing, she had blood tests done by a doctor each month only to receive more negatives. It wasn’t until she entered her second trimester that she found out through further testing that she was indeed three months along! She had a healthy baby.
Ever since I was introduced to this “other side” — the side of pregnancy that isn’t so black and white — I’ve been interested in hearing more stories that make you say “Ooooh, I’m so glad I know that can happen…!”
For example: HPT not showing positive until you were 8 weeks along… HPT showing negatives only for a blood test to show positive… Not knowing you were pregnant because you had your period… etc etc.
If you have a story that will enlighten us future mamas, please share your “How I Found Out” story 🙂

Bump. There are bound to be some interesting stories out there! I was charting my temp so I knew I was pregnant, but I’m curious to hear about others’ experiences 🙂

I think this would be really interesting to know as well. I don’t have an interesting or funny story, but I had several false alarms because I have a vitamin D deficinecy, so everyone kept asking if I was pregnant becuase I was dizzy, had headaches, and was tired all the time. After going to see the doctor twice on the third time going (with the same symptoms except this time a pos pregnancy test) my doctor was like, “I looked at your chart and saw you were in again for all the same stuff, and then I read further and was like oh that’s NEW.” He’s a guy and doesn’t have much experience with births, so he handed me off to one of the female doctors.
So not a real How I Found Out story, but it could have turned into one eventually has I just passed off my pregnancy symptoms as my vitamin definicieny.

I know someone who didn’t realize she was pregnant until she was 8 weeks when she missed her SECOND period because she just happened to spot heavily enough right when she would have had her first period that she thought it WAS her period. Nevertheless, she went on to have a healthy baby boy!

I didn’t know I was pregnant twice because I am on birth control pills. I tested negative at home for the first and positive with a blood test at my doctor. For the second, I tested postive at home and at the doctor. I guess that’s not very interesting but that’s my story.

I know a girl who at age 14 found out she was pregnant but who thought she miscarried at 3 months because she started having monthly bleeding again. She gained a little bit of weight, but not nearly enough to look pregnant and she dieted a lot to try to lose it. She spent the week before she had the baby on a beach vacation with her family and nobody (including her) ever suspected! She gave birth in the bathroom at home. She and the baby were alright but she was Rh- and had to have the shot, luckily she’s since been able to have another baby without any issues that I know of (she’s 28 now).

@ScottishMrs: Wasn’t there a TV show that featured women who had no idea they were pregnant? It is totally possible – sometimes the fetus grows UP instead of pushing the abdomen OUT. And then if you keep testing negative, well then you can think you’re not pregnant!
My mom didn’t know she was pregnant with my brother until 5 months in, and he was a preemie born at 8 months, so she didn’t have a lot of time to get ready for his arrival, lol. I’m 8 years older than him, so I remember this.
I was 10 years in the making (as my dad likes to put it) so I’m sure she jumped for joy upon getting a positve test result.

I always find the “I didn’t know I was pregnant” stories so fascinating (and unbelievable!) I have a pretty vanilla story – took a test on day period was due and it came back positive lol

Mine isn’t as bad as not knowing I was pregnant for so long. But I didn’t get my positive on a FRER until several days after missing my period on 18/19DPO. I thought at our NT scan last week the baby would be a week behind thinking maybe I ovulated later but nope, right on schedule. For some reason my body didn’t excrete the hcg horomone until well after my missed period.

Well mine is actually a funny story. I had an appointment to go get put on birth control. It was about an hour away. I had to pee and seen my pregnancy tests (we were ttc before) and decided to take a test since my period was 4 days away and still had no symptoms. BOOM! Positive. I took 2 more. Positive. I went to my doctor’s appointment and it was positive too. I even got a 4 pack at Walgreens because I didn’t believe it and they were all positive. CRAZY!

i know a girl who found out she was pregnant when she went in for a yearly physical. The doc was doing the pap and was like….”ummmm, ya, this isn’t right”

One of the mom’s to one of the kids my DD goes to daycare with JUST had one of these stories.
I went to pick my DD up and the daycare provider was like, “Guess who had a baby yesterday? M!”
We were both flabberghasted. M is a tiny little thing. Maybe 5’5 and 120lbs? Apparently she carries more towards the back with ALL of her(4) pregnancies. This time around, she didn’t even know she was pregnant until 8 weeks before she had the baby.
Her LO is 4 weeks old now, and I saw her the other day, and she DOES NOT look like she just had a baby. It’s amazing!

My sister’s friend didn’t find out she was pregnant until she was 6 months along! She was bleeding like a normal period the entire pregnancy!

I love reading these stories! Mine isn’t really funny, but I’ll tell it anyways. I bought a bunch of ovulation tests to see if I was ovulating at all (I was/am breastfeeding so I hadn’t had a period). In the box came like 20 free pregnancy tests (cheapies). So just for fun, when I did my ovulation test I dipped a pregnancy test too. Nothing showed up until after 10 min… so I was like oh it’s an evap line and showed it to my husband who had no idea what one was. The next night I do another just in case… right at 10 minutes there is a line. So the next natural step was of course to make my husband pee in a cup to see if the tests were all turning up false lines. His was stark white. So I drove to Walmart at 2am to buy tests LOL. The first one I did was negative (but showed a line after the 5 min mark). So I waited until morning and did FRER, sure enough there was a line on it! But my hubby was still not convinced. So later in the day I took a digital, feeling pretty sure it would be negative, but it pops up PREGNANT. So I show him as he’s rocking our 10 month old and he’s singing “Twinkle twinkle little star- holy crap you’re gonna have a sibling.”
