Try some curls at the trial! My FSIL, a hairstylist, says fine hair does hold a curl well if it's a little dirty and she uses spray starches. She says her pro iron gets REALLY hot. Much hotter than what we can buy in store, and she can make hair do whatever she wants.
My mom has really fine asian hair that falls limp real fast, and FSIL was like, "ha, i'll make it hold, don't you worry!"
Plus it's usually all pinned together, too.
i LOVE the updo of the woman in the wedding dress BTW.
If your hair is mostly one color you could consider extensions if you want more fullness
I have SUPER fine hair that I normally just straighten, too. If I curl it myself, I usually have limp hair about halfway through the day. However, my stylist was totally able to make it work and her curls stayed in for like 10 or 12 hours! Professionals really do know what they're doing... and they're better at it than us! :) My only advice is to make sure you feel comfortable after the trial knowing your stylist will be able to pull off what you want. Keep going to trials under you are 100% sure it will be perfect. And I love the Carrie Underwood pic... Good luck!
Thanks for this post July09. I have fine hair too and don't know what to do. I was in a wedding last month and used that as a "trial. I had it half up and curled. It looked really pretty for a couple of hours. But by the end of the night the curls fell flat. So yes, your hairstylist can curl your hair, but it's just a matter if it will stay that way. I think I might do it in a loose updo like your inspiration pick.
I think ejs4y8 has a good idea about extensions if you really want your hair down and curled.
Thanks for the quick responses guys! My wedding is in July so I'm a bit concerned about the heat. I want cute hair, that makes me feel like I'm getting married! But I also want to look like myself and I want my hair to last.
I have part 2 of my bachelorette party tonight, so I figure that will be a good test if the style will hold up and I'll get some good feedback from my close friends!
I appreciate any advice or picture ideas!
You should also check out the gallery! I got a lot of great inspiration from pics there. Also, if your curls fall out within a few hours, your stylist isn't doing it right. Even with really fine hair, your stylist should have resources available to make the curls stay put for a really long time.
As a fine haired bride myself- my suggestion is to do some curls, but still have it up somehow, like the 3rd photo. If you're like me, humidity is horrific with my hair and since you're getting married in July (not sure where), I'd be worried too. I'm having an outdoor wedding in October, but I already know that I've got to go for an updo of some sort, just to be safe. I know hairstylists are rockstars and can do amazing things, just wouldn't want things to fall flat on your big day :)
I have rediculously fine, and think hair and when its styled right the curls hold nicely (wite quite a bit of hairspray/product in it)
My MOH is a senior hair stylist so she is taking the reigns on the big day for doing my hair. I will probably doing a curly updo like the one you you have in your picture of the bride. I know she will be adding extentions into my hair a) to add fullness and b)because my hair might be a little too short to do some of the things she wants
You can get really inexpensive extensions that can basically be the bulk of your hair to give it the fullness and your own hair will be the main focus.
Thanks for all the advice! Here are the results of my hair trial. I think it came out pretty good and it lasted all night last night! Any other feedback would be great!
JULY BRIDE THE PIC DIDNT SHOW...BUT I LOVE THE UPDO FROM THE OTHER PICS YOU POSTED!
It's so great that the curls held. I might make one teensy suggestion... The stylist may want to take slightly bigger chunks to curl (like the size of the biggest loop in the picture), that way it looks a little less frizzy and a little more polished.
Having said that, I love the idea and think it will look great :)
Thanks doctorgirl! I agree, less frizzy would be good. She redid a part and ended up brushing out the curls in the process. I think not brushing them out would have kept them more defined.
I think the trial looks great! I also have very fine hair and my stylist is putting a clip on hair piece into the bun (you and I are basically going for the same style) to give it more oomph. You may want to ask yours if she can do this too so that you'll have more hair to make the larger, more polished curls that doctorgirl suggests.

I'm headed to my hair trial this afternoon and I'm collecting some idea pics. Does anyone have recommendations for wedding hair with fine hair? I don't curl my hair. I usually wear it straight and my hair typically doesn't hold curls well, but the stylist said she could make it curl...
Here's some pics I've been considering
