We’re doing an informal afterparty for our friends after we get back from our wedding. I don’t even feel right calling it a “reception” because that invokes something more formal. We’re going to have cake and finger foods. I’m trying to keep them somewhere between “super bowl party” and “cocktail party” if that makes sense. 🙂
Anyone have any ideas for snacky type stuff that’s not too complicated or pricey to make? Here are my ideas so far:
-chips with homemade salsa, guacamole, and cheese dip
-brie in a puff pastry with crackers
-spinach dip in a bread bowl
-chocolate fountain with all kinds of things to dip in it….if I can either borrow one or find a cheap one!!

If you want to do chocolate, you could always do fondue. I’d imagine it’s cheaper to do a pot of fondue instead of renting a fountain. But the same idea!
Also, smokies are good, and so are wings (albeit messy). Those always show up at superbowl parties =] i’ve seen mini corndogs and pizza bites make an appearance though, haha. Ooo here’s an idea: You could do mini pizzas with the pizza dough. Pizza balls, that kind of thing. mini calzones, whatev. Buy pizza dough in the sheet, put some cheese, sauce, and whatever inside, then pinch together and bake.
Also mini quesadillas! Which is more of a “real food” which is good, too. I’d also throw out a plate of crab or chicken salad. Something a little heavy
THe best salsa ever is homemade though–if you can swing it, use a food processor and it is so fast it’s not even funny!
I love party food =] go to allrecipes.com and check out some of their popular party recipes.
also pinwheels are good. Tortilla+chive/onion cream cheese+deli meat. Roll up, slice. You can make them with the croissant type breads too. they’re always popular. You can buy ’em frozen at Sams too
