@PrncssDva: Yay!!! I just got our last couple in the mail last night. It feels SOOO good. My only problem now is that I ordered custom stamps and I have far too many. I guess that we'll be sending letters with our photos on them for a while, LOL!

@mwitter80: and @bakerella: I am so glad that you ladies understand. I thought it would be easy to get them out and all in a few weeks after the wedding, but it's NOT!! LOL

Yay.... what a good feeling I'm sure. I feel better now reading posts above. I JUSt started doing ours and our wedding was 2 months ago. Part of the delay was hadn't even opened gifts until about 1 month ago and also ordered TY cards with our wedding pics. I'm feeling motivated and goal is ALL out in the next 2 weeks.

@PrncssDva: Omg I went through THREE printers to get those mo-fo's even printed up, never mind writing notes to each person!!!! I plowed through writing them in 2 days because I was so anxious to just get them over with!!! I had to bug DH for a few days to get his done. One person has already gotten theirs and really loved the cards we had made, so mission accomplished :)

@bakerella: I actually have been sending mine out in bunches. So, some people got theirs ages ago....up until the ones sent today. I sent out the ones for the people that gave money/checks first. Giftcards were next and then the physical gifts in groups after that.

Ugh--I have 4 left. I don't know how I forgot about them. Just came across the list a week ago. Don't know how I forgot about them. Just so many more important things to do---like watch TV, eat ice cream...

@bakerella: have you posted examples? I'm dying to see them after all you went through!

I am still working on mine....very, very, very slowly.  Like at the pace of one a week....

I might do one today.  Or take a nap.

I have all of my side done. DH has done zero. At what point do I just do them for him? I REALLY don't want to do that, but I am sick of hearing my voice asking him if he has started yet...

@magilnyc: I plan on writing them all.  My husband has horrible handwriting, plus he is in Maryland.  LOL.  Please slow down on yours, you are making me look bad! :-)

@mmsva: No! But I'll do one up for your ladies and post it tonight or tomorrow for you :) Thanks for the reminder!

On a side note, my grandfather called today, the conversation went like this:

Grandpa: I got your card today. You've been married forever. I thought you'd already sent these.

Me: Nope. We had a lot of problems with printers, so we just got through them now.

Grandpa: Well it seems like if you send them now it means you got married recently, but you didn't.

Me: Well.... Better late than never (me: don't yell at the old man... don't yell at the old man... The rule is a year, it's fine it's fine!!!)
Grandpa: Anyways, it's a very nice card. You thanked me for my generous gift. I don't remember what I gave you.
Me: Well it was very nice of you and DH and I appreciate it.
Grandpa: Well. I'm not coming to your brother-in-law's birthday.
    Me: Okay.....
Grandpa: How did you get your pictures on those stamps?!
    Me: You order them specially.
Grandpa: Okay. Well I better go so you can eat your dinner.
Me: Oooooooookay well talk to you later! Love you! (it's 5pm and DH isn't home, I think it's just the retirement home that eats that early, LOL!)
Sigh. LOL! He's such a funny old man but I adore him.

@PrncssDva: Omg he's too funny, I love him. When my sister got married years ago she sent out her thank you cards in 2 batches a couple of days apart. He called her and told her off because he got his card but his sister or someone hadn't gotten theirs yet. Apparently the man has a thing about thank you cards...

Thank you for this post!  I thought I was the only one.  Our 6 month anniversary was last week.  Traditional etiquette says you have a year to send a gift and a year for the note but I want these out of my hair:)

@PrncssDva: YAY!  Congratulations!!!  I thought I'd have ours out by the end of the year... but 'life' happens and thank you's didn't.  I mailed the last batch of ours just shy of our 6-month mark, and it was SO LIBERATING!!  We had a mini celebration - they were weighing over my head SO heavily!!

If anyone is struggling with them - i HIGHLY recommend doing them in batches.  I just went down my list, skipped some of the more difficult ones or ones I wanted to write longer messages in.... DH stalled the process some (as I waited patiently -> nagged) for him to do his part in finishing them off.... I ended up doing about 3-5 a week - some week's more, some week's less - WAY more manageable that way.

In retrospect, I wish I did a photo thank you card - so those that didn't attend the wedding could see pictures.... but, ended up buying some pretty letterpress type ones and had our printer put our return address on the back... I could have ordered some picture ones and didn't ... oh well!

@oracle: I did ours in batches of 10 and it really helped. I also found that once I got on a roll and sort of developed a standardized wording it went really quickly and I could do more than 10 at a time. It also really helps to colour code your guest list in Excel when you've finished one. So I would highlight the guest in yellow when the card was done, and if I needed an updated address I would highlight their address in orange. Once I got the new address I'd highlight in in green so I would know it was done but I still needed to write a card for them. A bit anal but it really helped to keep things straight!

@bakerella: Totally agree about Excel!  That really helped me too.... you were much more fancy with colors - I just added a column and put a little 'x' by it when it was done.  I was so happy to put 'x's' on that stupid spreadsheet!!! :) :) It also helped me 'group' similar thank you's, if that makes any sense...

@Georgia Bee: oooh I read that it was 6 months...oh well lol

@iheartnerdyboys: I'm normally the one to get everything done, but I just was slow with these for some reason.

@oracle: I too feel like a great weight has been lifted :) I did batches also.

@bakerella: I sorta did a standard wording too.

Trying to find the right words was hard! I created a mail merge where I put names, address and gift- one to a page. Then I cut and pasted some general verbage onto each page (eg- cash gifts got one wording, gift cards another). Then I went and made changes and personalized each one. Then I printed them out. As I finished it, I folded the paper in half. The best part was I was able to sit in front of the TV and just copy without thinking.

Here is I site that was a god-send when it came to thinking of what to write...

@bakerella: Yay, on getting the thank yous out :) That sounds so much iike the conversations I would have with my grandfather before he passed away. He would go from the weather, to when I was coming to visit, to someone's birthday 6 months away, back to the weather, to if my car was running okay. We would talk in circles allll the time but I miss it so much now. I know it sounds crazy cliche, but enjoy those conversations now.
