I have been told that no more than 2 months before is the usual.

I’d wait until much closer to the wedding.  I’d do alterations 2-3 months before the wedding.  You want to make sure your weight is stable, you have the shoes you are wearing, and that’s about it!

Fitting usually start 2-3 months before. Since it is very large on you, I would suggest 3 months out.

my DBs dress was huge on me.  I went 3 months out and it took 4 fittings to get it perfect.  I didn’t go to DBs for alterations, but I still think 3 months is better if it’s very large on you.

cbcs- I would try to find a local alterations place for an alterations estimate. My friend got married last year and DB wanted to charge an insane about of money for pretty minor alterations. She took her dress elsewhere and got a much better price for alterations.

I’m having my first fitting appointment a little more than 2 months before my wedding. I just need to have it hemmed and the straps brought in a little. I bought my dress at DB and they are going to be doing the alterations as well. There were a few beads that were loose and they will fix that a well.

Mine is 8 weeks prior. And I have to have it taken in 1-2 sizes.

I just made my appointment today.  My dress has minimal alterations.  The length is perfect and it fits like a glove… but the chest is a little big.  My appointment is 6 weeks before the wedding.
