Hmm…have you thought about taking him to more of a “guy” friendly show like Blue Man Group or to Medeival Manor?  I would let him think you are going to a show you’d like but then make it something fun.  You could go to the North End or Chinatown for Italian Dinner if you do Blue Man (Medeival Manor has food).

@Leonard2B:  Is he handy with power tools? He might have a bit of fun using one on/for the house, or to make something (e.g. furniture) for it. That way, it’s still a gift for him, but still something useful (not sentimental) and something for the house.

@Leonard2B:  is he a sports fan? My boyfriend is a huge Buccs fan, so for his birthday and our anniversary, I got him a signed football, and a signed jersey — both from his favorite players. They weren’t too much (around the same as a watch or power tool would cost). You just can’t beat a face like this:
