I'm a big proponent of "experience" gifts. I have a 2 year old, and we have so many clothes & toys it's ridiculous!! I would love tickets to the zoo, museum or pool, passes to a mommy/baby class, etc. In fact, I went to a b-day party last night, and gave the kids passes to a local children's museum. I know, though, it's not as fun to shop for, and the kid has nothing to open, so I understand when people don't want to go that route.
Another thing that you can't have too many of are books & puzzles. Melissa & Doug makes some adorable wood puzzles that will last a while.
If you want something that's more of a keepsake, but also useful, does she have a piggy bank? My son loves his, and I plan on using it to help teach him the value of money. There are adorable piggy banks all over the place that you can buy.
Sorry, I don't feel like I'm much help, but those are the kind of gifts I like for my son to receive so that we don't continue to overrun the house with toys!
@les105: Thank you so much, those are all great ideas! They live in a more rural area so I'll have to do some thinking on what activities they'd have access to, but I love the "experience" idea! I just gave her several puzzles for Christmas (they were Melissa & Doug!), but books are a great idea too. I think she already has a piggy bank, but I'll check for sure because I like that. Thank you!

My niece is turning one soon and I would love some ideas from you mommas about what to get for her! They are overrun with clothes and I really have no clue what else is appropriate/needed at that age. I'd like it to be something somewhat cute and memorable, but also not some useless "keepsake".
