missmacaylah:  I know typically sample sizes are a 10 or 12, but some bridal salons carry other sizes such as 6, 8, and 14s, but it depends.

My mom is a street size 14 but can fit in a sample size 10, depending on the dress. Whether the sample is too big or too small or just right, it can be difficult to see what it’ll really look like once it’s tailored to fit YOUR body. It really comes down to your imagination, and how you see yourself in the dress. It will be great once it’s ordered with your measurements.

My advice is to wear proper undergarments that you would plan on wearing underneath your wedding gown and to wear or borrow heels that are the height you want your wedding shoes to be. Also, have faith that you will know which dress will be the one for you. You may or may not have “the moment” but your gut will tell you how the dress will fit you once you order it.

Get excited and have fun with it. There is at the very least, one dress out there that will look great on you and make you feel like a beautiful bride. I’m sure you’ll find something amazing. Good luck! 🙂

missmacaylah:  I had my first appointments last week, and as a street size 14 (bridal size 18-20), I was really nervous. I dreaded not being able to try any on, getting stuck in dresses, walking out with my whole backside hanging out etc lol. But I actually had a great time! I don’t live in a huge city, but even all of the stores I went to had a large range of sample sizes, mostly sizes 10 and up. The sales ladies leave the room while you get into the dress as much as possible and then come help do you up before you go out to show people. I only got stuck in one, a size 8 lol. Lace up/corset backs will be your best friend! Even if the sample isn’t your size, you’ll be able to get a really good idea of how it will look and fit. My only other pieces of advice are to bring only one or two people to your first appointment if you’re nervous, and if you can, make an appointment during the day on a weekday. I went on a Monday afternoon and we had pretty much the whole salon at each store to ourselves! Have fun!!

I don’t really have any advice, except enjoy and soak up the moment. It is seriously one of my favorite planning memories so far!

missmacaylah:  That’s exactly what I’m looking for too! I don’t see nearly enough ball gowns on here, so I can’t wait to see what you try on! 🙂

I definitely fell in love with the ballgown style! Here’s the one I chose last week, just for fun 🙂 I had my heart set on a blush dress, but couldn’t find the blingy blush ballgown of my dreams. So I’m going with this Mori Lee, and the seamstress will replace a few layers of white tulle with pink tulle to make it more me! (Pardon the crappy pin job of the tulle, we just wanted to get an idea)

missmacaylah:  Aw thank you so much! I was terrified to see a picture of myself in a wedding dress thinking it might be discouraging, but damn that boning and those corset backs can do wonders to put curves in the right places lol. Can’t wait to see pictures of what you fall in love with!
