Hi Bees! I have my official dress-shopping trip with my family in FL soon, but I decided to have a preliminary appointment on my own. There are two dresses I have been eyeing (Essense of Australia D1520 and D1541). I made calls to salons in FL and it turns out, these dresses are on opposite ends of the state. While my family is willing to drive to the dresses, I wanted to make sure that they’d be worth all that time in the car. I found a salon near where I live that carries both of these dresses, so I was able to try them on. It was a success because I was able to rule a dress out and save about 2-3 hours in the car. PLUS, I found a dress similar to the one that was ruled out that I like much more, and is not out of the way for our current bridal appointments.
Essense of Australia D1520 was the first one I tried on and I loved it. It’s a beautiful full lace ball gown with a sweetheart neckline that looks a lot like Jessica Simpson’s wedding dress. This dress is still in the running and I will try it on for my family. The dress comes with a latte ribbon belt. I tried it on with a sparkly belt (1st picture) and the latte belt (2nd). Both were great and make the dress versatile for the look you want. It even looks great without a belt!
Essense of Australia D1541 was the dress that I thought would be “the one”. It was not. While it’s a lovely dress and looks great on other brides I’ve seen on here, it wasn’t for me. The tulle made it look really stiff and the ruching made me feel boxy. The consultant said it best, “You aren’t as excited about it as you should be.” It just wasn’t for me. Luckily, the consultant had another dress that’s similar!
Lis Simon Erin was the third dress I tried on. The consultant suggested it because it’s similar to the D1541, but it’s chiffon. Oh. My. Gosh. It was gorgeous and my favorite so far. The chiffon ruching laid so much better and looked more elegant and romantic. The belt in the photos comes with the dress, which is also a plus! I felt beautiful in this dress and I didn’t want to take it off! Luckily it’s carried at a salon near some other appointments, so it will be easy to fit into our itinerary.
While some people don’t agree with preliminary shopping without family, it really helped me. I got a clearer vision of what I want in a dress and was able to rule one out, which will save a trip across FL. I went alone and told the salon up front that this was a preliminary trip, which they supported. I am so excited to go shopping with my family!
I’d love to know your opinions, so please let me know which you like best!
BIG TIP FOR DRESS SHOPPING: If you have specific dresses you want to try on, call the salons to make sure they have those dresses. Just because a salon is listed on a designer website as a “where to buy” location, does NOT mean that the salon carries the whole line.
