We’re having our first meeting/taste test with a caterer tomorrow (we haven’t booked one yet). Does anyone have any advice on good questions to ask? Things that you discovered along the way or things you wish you’d have done differently?
I plan to print a copy of our venue agreement before we go, because some things are covered by the venue and some are covered by the caterer. The venue has 4 preferred caterers that we can choose from, and we’re meeting with the one that I had pegged as my favorite from the beginning.
Thanks in advance!

@Blonde17Jess: Ask them about place settings and linens, a rental price sheet if they have it, fees for staff and recommended numbers of staff per guests, charges for setup and cleanup if applicable. I tended to focus on the cost of the FOOD at first and sort of forgot about the pricing for this other stuff. It didn’t influence my choice of caterer, but it was an important piece of the budget.
Also ask if they charge a facility fee. We found that sometimes caterers are charged a fee by the venue to be on the “preferred vendor list.” We did a tasting with one caterer who tried to push that cost onto the customer by charging a percentage off the final bill as the “facility fee.” Fortunately, the caterer we picked did not use that practice.

I’d asking for pricing for all the items that are a la carte. Additionally, I’d state my budget first & howinch you really want to stay on that budget but you do want it to be very special. Since they have competition, I’m sure they’ll work with you.
