This will be the first Christmas P and I will share since living under the same roof. It was oh-so-exciting to bring home a big ol’ tree and a slew of carefully picked out ornaments. Cheesy, but wonderful, all the same.
I really want to do something this Christmas that will set the tone for holidays to come. Our families have a ton of amazing traditions to share, but I want to start one of our very own.
What are some traditions you share with your SO that makes your Christmas extra special? Inspire me, Bees.

We make custom ornaments together. My family is really into ornaments, and I have one from every year of my life. So since we have lived together, we make our own little ornaments.

We have a decorate the tree night where we put on Christmas music and decorate 🙂 Christmas Eve we cook a special dinner and make my grandmother’s gingerbread men. Then we go to Mass and come back and open one gift. The morning of, we open presents and then go over to his family’s house. We also did a chocolate advent calander this year. Plus there are little traditions we have like getting gifts for our pets, getting a new ornament every year about something that happened that year, and going to see the Christmas lights in the botanical gardens nearby.

We get our own annual ornament each year and we decorate the tree with music and cocoa or wine the day after Thanksgiving. We also do an Italian Christmas Eve with lots of seafood, then our American Christmas day dinner.

@soonerpsych: Feast of the Seven Fishes? We totally do this with my family too! My Dad’s side is full Sicilian, so it’s a seafood Chirstmas Eve for us as well.

My BF have been together since 2007. We always get these silver ornaments with the year on it. Some years we’ve gotten a picture frame, too. We joked that when we’re old and gray together there’ll be a tree filled with numbers and pictures from when we first started dating.
He also bakes this apple cake…all the time during the Holidays ahah.

Every year, we go downtown to ride the holiday carousel that is put up during the month of December. Last year was our third year doing it, and it’s where we got engaged. 🙂 Other than that, we like to put on holiday music and drink hot cocoa while putting the tree up. I’m sure we’ll have many more traditions as the years continue.

@izziebear: We drive around and look at lights while singing Christmas carols (with our families). We make a happy birthday Jesus cake (maybe cheesy-but fun!) We have friends over for dinner Christmas Eve then go to service together. Christmas morning we read the Christmas story and take time to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas before opening presents. We have a huge breakfast Christmas morning to tide us over til 2pm and often family joins us. We invite someone over for dinner Christmas day who would otherwise be alone and give them a gift.

I’ve been trying to figure out what we should do. We’re not doing anything this year but I want to come up with something for next year.

We get ornaments made every year. Christmas day we go to spend time with his dad and gf, then to my parents to open presents, then to my aunt’s to see my family. And then the next day or that weekend (depending on what day Christmas falls on) we go to his sisters to spend time with her and the kids

It will be our first Christmas living together too! We don’t have a lot of traditions sorted for this year (and they are those things that tend to evolve over time) but there are three that we are starting with this year
- bacon sandwiches for breakfast – this is a family tradition of mine and it wouldn’t feel like Christmas without them
- playing santa for each other – we have a couple of presents for each other under the tree but we’re also doing stockings as smaller gifts
- one of his presents under the tree is a personalised ornament with (Scribbles) and (Mr. Scribs) 2010 on it. I’d really like to get one for us (and our future family) every year.
Am sure as time passes, we will have more traditions but this feels good for now 🙂

We do the pickle in the tree thing. Put a pickle ornament in the tree and then everyone does a scavenger hunt to find it. Whoever wins gets a prize! Always loved it as a kid, but always hated the prize – a giant candy bar. Too much chocolate!
