@Running – it took me almost 6 wks (like to get my period after my miscarriage in May!
It took me about 4 wks to ovulate (I wasn’t using OPKs or temping but did have tell tale EWCM and mega ovulation cramps) and then like clock work got my period 2 wks later. So frustrating b/c we were cleared to start trying again after I got a period. I actually put up a poll on Wb back then b/c I thought I would get it w/in 2-4 weeks after the miscarriage and I started freaking out!
Sounds like you are getting there though!
Here is my poll:
I was like clock work 29 days for years. I had a miscarriage and actually continued to get a normal cycle right away. I then had a 2nd miscarriage and I’m all over the place. First cyle was 32 days, 2nd was 41, and this one according to OV will be right around 36. It’s crazy. And very frustrating.
I was pretty regular after my miscarriage.
I had to have a D&C at 10 weeks. I had the procedure done on a Tuesday. I had very, very little bleeding after the procedure. It was more like a faint brown discharge. I was expecting more, since I had been 10 weeks pregnant. On the Saturday after the D&C, I started having heavy bleeding. I called my doc and they gave me a second prescription of pills that are supposed to help the bleeding after a mc. The bleeding lasted about one week. Exactly 4 weeks after that bleeding (and about 4.5 after the D&C), I got my period. So to me, it seems like from the first real bleeding I experienced on that Saturday until my period 4 weeks later was actually one “regular” cycle. I say regular, because I wasn’t charting at all, so I don’t know if I actually ovulated.
After that, I had to wait to go through another full cycle before we could start TTC again. That cycle was also regular.
My first cycle TTC after my miscarriage is this cyle. I don’t know if this cycle will also be regular, because I haven’t gotten my period yet (and I’m hoping I don’t, meaning I’m pregnant!!!!).
My doc told me that it could take 8 weeks to get my first period, and that 8 weeks would be considered WELL within the “normal” range. I know it is sooooo frustrating to be waiting, especially if you plan on trying again soon. When the 4 week mark passed after my miscarriage and I didn’t have a period, I had a mini breakdown. My doc told me it could take 2- 8 weeks, so after the two week mark, I spent every day hoping I would get it!!
I hope you get your period soon! Are you guys planning on trying again soon? Did your doc request that you wait a specific amount of time? (Mine requested I get my period, then go through one full cycle, and THEN try. I’ve heard it’s more to be able to help date your next pregnancy.
I have read some stuff that talks about how cycles can be irregular after miscarriages. Honestly, I have no idea if my cycles are any different than what they otherwise would have been because I got P on cycle 3 after going off BCP. Right after BCP they were 35, 30 and would have been like 38 on the cycle I got P. Since then they’ve been 40, 34 and 31 days.
I’m now on cycle 3 TTC post miscarriage. Since cycle 3 worked last time, hoping it will work this time, too!
@winniewolf: GOOD LUCKKKKKK on Cycle 3! I’m crossing my fingers and hoping that this is your month!!!! Like you said, your cycle days seem to be on track with what they were before your MC… and even the higher one of 40 days is pretty close to your first “cycle 3” which would have been 38. So they all seem in line.
AF came on schedule after my miscarriage. But I believe many women do not get AF for quite awhile afterwards. I hope it comes soon for you!!
Thanks!! My OB told me that they always have to recommend to wait 3 cycles, usually just for emotional reasons. She said that it’s not medically necessary but that if we feel emotionally ready to wait for one cycle so that they could date the new pregnancy if I were to fall pregnant right away. My husband and I did A LOT of research and made a personal decision to continue NTNT. I made an appointment with my regular doctor (who is also a gynecologist and who has been working with me and my cycles/PCOS for 8 years) and she said that my chart looked like a regular cycle and that if we wanted to try right away we could.
I went to see her again last Thursday (CD 32) and she took one look at my chart and said that it looked like I’d ovulated and she said that she thought she saw signs of implantation and pregnancy. I was shocked because, obviously, we wanted to try right away but I never expected anything to happen. She sent me to get bloodwork and my HCG was 2 but my progesterone was 11 so I’d definitely ovulated. She said that it may have just been too early and that I probably ovulated later than normal but that I should start my period within a week. It’s almost been a week now and still no sign of AF! I took a test this morning and it was negative. I’d love to be pregnant but if I’m not I really want to just start the new cycle so we can move forward.
@winniewolf:I’ve definitely read that too. Good luck on cycle 3!! I really hope that it’s lucky for you 🙂
Sorry for the novel ladies….geeesh. It feels good to vent lol
Maybe it has to do with how far along people are too…I was just over 6 weeks but when they did the U/S the baby just measured at 5w2d.
@HopingToBeaMama: My doc said that each pregnancy is different and can cause changes in your body. I was almost out of my first trimester with both pregnancies so there really isn’t a difference there. It’s quite frustrating, but I’m doing what I can to deal with it.
We are TTC again. I am actually in the 2 week wait. Hoping this time it works and that we can get a sticky baby. I dont think I could handle another miscarriage.
My BBT was all over the place, and two different times I got the EWCM and them a temp spike and then nothing–no sustained high temp, no O. After 4 weeks, I think I o’d (using OPK, CM and cervical position). Now, 3 “DPO” my temp is not nearly as high as it was the first time so I’m a little skeptical and think maybe I didn’t ovulate.
Some people recover right away, so people take a bunch of time.
@winniewolf, Thanks for sharing that poll. I guess I’m one of the later ones!
