I haven't been in that situation, but friends of mine were. The bride let her groom pick the song, and in the end he surprised her by singing their first dance song (he used to sing professionally on cruise ships). It was really sweet.
YOU ARE INSANE!!! Just kidding :P I think that is a great idea to give him responsibility over something, especially if he is as musically inclined as you say. I think he should make a good choice based on the both of you, and if he wrote it, I WOULD BE IN HEAVEN! I saw a Four Weddings where the bride wrote and recorded the first dance song and it was quite touching.

I dont think it is a bad idea your FI picking the song. However, if you're taking dance lessons i would want to practice to the song you will be actually dancing to on your wedding day. We took dance lessons and the instuctor choose a style of dance based on the beat of the song. She taught us steps so we were able dance together and look great doing it without looking like we were in grade 8 dancing for the first time! Lol!
Oh he said he will speak to them (without me knowing) about the style of music it is toOmar ire it's not a waste for time with the dance lessons.
He's actually controlling all music at the wedding he picked out the band himself so I suppose seabirds sense for him to do this bug I just woke up this morning going OMG what did I do lol

awww I think that is sweet! I would never to do that, because my FI knows NOTHING about music (seriouslllllly nothing. He's hearing impaired so mostly he doesn't even know what lyrics say at all, and never bothers to look) but since your FI does, this could be really sweet!

I think I must have been off my head last night (I wasn't but felt like it!) but I have agreed to my FH picking our first dance song without me knowing until we are actually up there doing the dance in exchange for him coming to dance lesson/s... Its not the worst idea in the world (he's a musician so in somes ways think he will write something) but I'm a little worried to say the least!!!
Do fellow bees think I'm nuts? Has anyone else been in a similar situation?
