So, apparently there is this tradition (on my hubby’s Italian side) that during the first dance you not only get “wrapped” in streamers, but also have bubbles blown at you. I’ve seen this done at the last couple of weddings we went to and I REALLY DO NOT LIKE IT.
Just as one of the people “wrapping” the couple, you get trampled on. I feel it kind of takes away from the moment. My FI’s mom has expressed its tradition so YET AGAIN, it is a touchy subject to bring up with FI… but I feel like it is less intimate and don’t want my dress to get trampled, and I have serious space and personal bubble issues… and I really wanted us to be able to end our slow dance part with something more fun/upbeat.. which we can’t do if we’re all tied up.
How should I approach this subject? Should I? Am I being selfish? Do my reasons make sense? Heeelllllp me… it’s just one more thing to add to the list of stuff my FMIL should not be influencing but has already gone and whispered in FI’s ear about it.. so to speak.
