That's a good pick! I love that song. I've used it in slideshows of my best friends. It is so happy and makes me want to bop around! As long as it's something that says something about the two of you and it feels right, then it's perfect. It doesn't have to be a normal first dance song, anyhow.
We are going to dance to "You and Me Song" by the Wannadies.
I'm leaning towards "You and I" from Michael Buble, but that may change, the FI is not set on it (he would probably want "Maps" from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, which would be fine, but it's only because he loves playing it on Rock Band hehe)
Also, I guess this would be a good place to ask. Somewhere on Weddingbee, someone was talking about songs, I don't know if it was for slideshows, dances or videos, but they mentioned Eisley's "I Wasn't Prepared". I downloaded it, it's awesome, but I can't figure out if it's a "happy" or "sad" song; even after looking at the lyrics. If anyone knows, let me know, thanks!
Our song is "What Are You Doing New Years' Eve?" So that will be it. A little odd for July wedding, but our band actually finds it very funny. And our friends and family all know that, after being really good friends for years, our first actual date was on New Years' Eve, so they think its sweet.
The Eisley song sounds sad to me - its about loss, yes? (Come, come back to me, my darling.)
Stay Beside Me by Richie Valens. We LOVE music from the 50's... so it was an easy choice!
I love old songs too, but the Queen song is VERY us....people seem to find it strange though, because it's not a slow, shmultzy song...
It's between "From Here To Eternity" by John Anderson or a Sara McGlaughlin song that I can't remember the name of now, but I saw a lot of you Bees used it and listend to it and we both loved it....great. I hate when info slips out my brain. You think I'd be used to it by now...lol.
We're doing "From This Moment" by Shania Twain.. It's significant because FH and I have been apart for 3 out of the 6 years we've been together. "From this Moment, Life has Begun" It's very pretty.
We're also thinking of doing a fast fun song to dance goofy too to "get the party started"
our song is "hero" by chad kroeger -- yes it's from spiderman haha. but it's not really a love song either...
i like the queen song though! good choice!
We are getting married on the Sweetest Day (October 18) our song is How sweet it is...to be loved by you! Its not really slow but we wanted something that wasnt too sappy.
"So Amazing" by Luther Vandross
Aww! I love Queen so I think your choice is awesome. It doesn't have to be a slow song, it should just represent you and your FH personality :)
Rock it!
I'm thinking "Stolen" by Dashboard Confessional.
Imagine this conversation."Where did you get your first song?" "Well one day I was watching Scrubs..."
hehe
Ours is "If I could build my whole world around you" by Marvin Gaye. It is a fun, not slow song, so we are doing all of our "special" songs Motown too--My Girl for the father/daughter, Ain't no mountain high enough for the bridal party, and our last song is You're all I need (also Marvin). FI can't dance that well, so we will probably look silly, but I don't care. It will be fun, set to tone for the dancing, and is US.
Go with what feels right to you. If that song always makes you think of your FI and makes you smile...do it.
Lsot in this Moment by Big & Rich....totally corny because it is about getting married but he told me he thinks of me when he hears this song. (this was about 6 months before he asked me to marry him and the 7 months after we met)
"Everything" by Michael Buble. But I'm having our DJ make sure he plays "I'm your Man" by Michael Buble later in the evening as well for us to dance to also
Love the Queen song! We are dancing to Song Bird it was originally done by Fleetwood Mac but we are dancing to the Eva Cassidy verison.
I'm avoiding the first dance. I know I'm weird, but I hate slow dancing and the idea of slow dancing in front of my friends and family makes me feel like barfing a little. I just can't do it. But if I have to...like if I am forced to do it kicking and screaming I'll dance to "let's get it on" because we have hired a motown band to play at our wedding. :D
I know she is amazing!! Everytime I hear her sing it I get chills. I also love her version of somewhere over the rainbow. I am using it for our photomontage.
We're using "If I Should Fall Behind" by Bruce Springsteen, because it's so appropriate for our relationship...we've both waited for each other to catch up in different ways. I think it's all about how the song reflects your relationship, so go with "You're My Best Friend" if it fits for you!
Our first dance was to "Still In Love With You" by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy (which is my husband's favorite band). Although a little less known, it was a great choice for us.
We might do "Island in the Sun" by Weezer. Not slow - funny - music video is about a wedding.
I definitely say choose a song that speaks to you and it sounds like Queen has spoken!! We’re having a hard time choosing between Led Zeppelin’s “Thank You”, The Beatles “In My Life” or “You make it easy” by Air (a French band).
All will be played at the wedding we're just deciding which one will have the spotlight . . .
more than anyone by gavin degraw ... i think. its the first song that he sang to me. we're not sure yet though~

Hi Bees,
What song are you all using for the first dance? My fiance and I have gone over all the typical first dance songs, and none of them really do it for us. I'm really feeling "You're My Best Friend" by Queen. What does everyone think about that? I know it's not a "slow" song, but I figure we could still have a fun/slow dance to it. We've been together almost 10 years now, and it just really really fits with our life...
