So, I have written a post before about not knowing what to do for our first dance. And we have agonized and agonized…. There are a lot of songs we love that mean something to us, but none of them are really dance worthy. We kept trying to come up with a good song, but in our discussions we both came back to the idea that “There Is” by Boxcar Racer is our most sentimental song, despite its seemingly unwedding-worthiness.
We have known each other since junior high and are high school sweethearts. The backstory on this song is that we both independently decided that these lyrics described our feelings for each other…years before we got together. We both took long road trips during each summer with our families and I would always think of him on the “13 hour drive” and imagine us being together. He first decided to ask me out while he was on one of these “13 hour drives” (a trip to FL with his family). Additionally, the first time I heard it come on his iPod on one of our dates, I remember (in my adolescent way) thinking it was fate. NO ONE else (at least none of my friends) had heard of this song. It was destiny that we both knew and loved this song ; ).
Anyway, we both thought it was impossible, because the original version of this song seems a little too harsh and “drummy” for a first dance. I have been scouring the internet for a cover and found this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M56xX0LTMAM . I wouldn’t necessarily watch the video, because I found it distracting, but please listen to the audio.
Does this sound appropriate for a first dance? Is it too long? Would people think it is weird? It is not the stereotypical wedding ballad, and it is awfully adolescent, but I still love the song for its sentimental value, as does FI.
