I finally got a job at my dream company and I start tomorrow! The one problem…I am like first day of college nervous. My heart is racing, I can’t even think about going to sleep. Anyone else feel like this before they start a new job? How did you calm yourself? Any tips on making good first impressions? I just want this to go really well 🙂

Best of luck! I don’t have much advice, except that I’m hoping to start a new job soon as well! Sending lots of good thoughts and vibes your way! Take many deep breaths along the way, and remember to smile 😀 Congrats on your new job!!

@LizLemon: Congratulations! That is awesome. I understand you can be nervous, but be yourself! Easier said than done though, right?
I always make a point to listen more than I talk at the first few days of a new contract. And I also try to always ask clarifying questions as I observe the standard procedures re: the actual work. If possible, I like to ask these via email so I have something to refer back to later and i don’t end up having to ask someone 30 times.
Other than that – just don’t partake in office gossip. I’m sure everyone will love you!

Don’t really have much advice to offer, but I think most people are nervous when they start a new job. But you got the job, so they must think you can do it, and since it’s your first day it probably won’t be too rough. I’m sure you’ll do great. Good luck

CONGRATS!! My advice is to be polite, but to just be yourself (as cliche as that sounds). And to listen a lot.
Don’t be nervous, the work is just work.. you’ll pick it up in no time, just focus on getting to know the people around you, their names, what they like, and take every opportunity to just chat with them.

I just started my first office job two weeks ago, and I was terrified! But it worked out so well! Just try not to stress and also maybe do something the night before, FH and I went for a bushwalk, to the gym and then out to dinner the day before, I was so pooped and went to bed without any stress.

I just changed jobs (same place, different organization) so I know how you feel! Breathe and like a lot of the others have said, be yourself. Ask any questions you may have as it really helps.

@vorpalette: It went well! I have seriously not stopped this week to get on a computer outside of work, so this is the first time I’ve been online in a few days. There will be a bit of adjusting, but I think it’s something that gives me a little room to grow. And that’s great!

@LizLemon: Congrats on your dream job and on your first day of work! I am sure I will feel everything you felt when I start my new job in April. I’m excited now but I’m sure I’ll be nervous as well, lol.
