Sounds like you had a great start. Remember they order dresses in ANY size so if you find a silhouette and features you like you can order it. I know after trying on at 4 different salons, I found a dress online that the first salon had (that I didn’t try on) but ended up ordering from them. Just keep looking and finding what you like and don’t like.

I bought my first day of shopping at the second store we went too. I really wanted to get it done in one day as I’m super indecisve and if I had too many options I’d get overwhelmed and be unable to make a decision. I was going to sleep on two dresses in the end and decide the next day but one of them ended up being a trunk show dress I had 30 minutes to make up my mind between that one and the dress at the other store. I went for it and it was the best decision I made.

rachel85:   I took a month to choose my dress, I visited several shops, two of them twice.  My mom took photos and I went home and looked at them, which was a huge help to me.  I definitely needed to sleep on my decision.  There was one dress I fell in love with, and the one turned out to be The dress, but I am happy I took my time to decide.

Take your time and enjoy the process!!

I voted yes but I didn’t actually pay for it on the first day…I told them I wanted to sleep on it but I didn’t bother to look at any other dresses. I think I tried on 4 the first day…I was looking for a specific dress that they said they didn’t have, but when I tried one on it was just TOO similar, we checked and sure enough it was the dress I was looking for. Definitely looks different on me than the model, lol. But I was in love.

I went back in about a week later to actually buy the dress. I still think I count as a “yes” to the poll because I didn’t bother to keep looking. And I have no regrets! 😉

I bought my dress at my first appointment and it was my 4th dress. I don’t know what it was but I just knew it was the one. I didn’t have that tearful “this is the one!” moment. It just felt right! I did regret for a while that I picked it so early cause my wedding dress shopping experience was kinda cut short but in the end I was and still am so so so happy with the choice I made.

I wanted to, and my dress consultant sure tried to tell me that “90% if brides by the first dress they try on”… which I later found out was a crock!

I am SO glad I waited and went to a few other places! Its better to wait and go to a bunch of places then grab one first go and have dress regret.

I ended up buying my dress from my first dress appointment but not that day. I loved the dress as soon as I put it on but wasnt sure it was bridal enough. I ended up going to two different places after that and narrowed it down to two dress. My dad them flew out for a visit and I showed him both dresses and ended up buying that first one 🙂

    • Wedding: September 2014 - The Fox Hill Inn

I was hoping to find something the first place I went because I had everyone there – my mom, FMIL and all my bridesmaids that are in the area. Only person missing that I wish could’ve been there was my sister/MOH, but she lives on the other side of the country, so that wasn’t happening. Anywho – I absolutely LOVED my consultant. I went in with two totally different ideas of what dresses I wanted and for the full hour and 30 mins she put me in and out of probably 10-12 gowns. None of them really spoke to me.

So then I was on a mission to find (what I thought was) THE dress – I called every store in CT (my home state) that carried Maggie Sottero dresses and asked if they had Jalissa. After about 3 or 4 phone calls by me and another 3 or 4 by one of my BM’s I had an appointment the following weekend for a bridal salon with Maggie dresses “similar” to Jalissa but not her. Then on my last phone call, I found Jalissa! Of course it was at the TEENY-TINY little bridal shop about 10 minutes from my house… I went there 3 days later and did not parts of her, so it was not the dress for me. Onto dress shop #3 that Saturday and the first dress I tried on ended up being THE ONE! Although I did not realize it at first and tried on another 6-8 dresses until I said “Can I try that one on one more time?” And my consultant laced me up real tight like it was my wedding day, threw on a belt at the waist for some bling and found me a veil for the time being. It wasn’t love at first sight, no crazy emotions or anything like that. Just a smile that I knew my FI would absolutely LOVE this dress on me and it was me to a T, without me realizing it at first!

So very long story short – take your time! I started dress shopping in late Jan/early Feb 2014 for a Sept 2014 wedding and ordered my dress Feb 8 and it came in 3 weeks later to my surprise! You definitely do not want dress regret since it’s a pretty decent chunk of change you’re spending on it. You want to make sure you look absolutely fabulous and more importantly FEEL 100% yourself and comfortable in it!

I am thankful for you sharing your experiences. I am terrified of trying on dresses out of self hate fear. Your idea of pre gaming is brilliant! I am totally going to have wine before! Haha

Good luck finding your dress…I am sure whatever you pick will be fantastic! =)

I went to like 5 salons, and at one salon the consultant went overload on me. I swear she had me try on every dress in the place and by the time I left I couldn’t even remember what I liked and didn’t like. Needless to say I DID NOT go back there again.

I did buy a dress, sort of on impulse at one place. I liked it and it was on sale (being discontinued). We ended up pushing back our date and by then I didn’t like the dress anymore. Serious dress regret. I was searching online and found a dress I absolutely LOVED, found a store that had a sample. Tried it on and they had a sample sale that day. So I bought it, 2 years earlier than our new date. But not once have I ever thought about my decision to sell the first dress and purchase a new dress (that was over my budget BTW). But I absolutely LOVE my new dress AND I never had that: “OMG this is the one!” Consultant hands me a tissue and I bawl my eyes out moment. I just told them it was the dress I fell in love with online and wanted to try it on. I did and immediately said “I love it and I’ll take it” but no tears. I was hoping for tears though.

When you find the dress you’ll know. Good luck.

    • Wedding: An amazing castle. August 2015

I bought my dress at my first appointment. I was expecting to be looking for months for my dress (hence why I started looking with over 2 years until the big day!) So I am very surprised to have found it on my first appointment. I just knew it was the one and was a little bit teary when I had it on so I very much doubt I’ll have dress regret (well I hope not anyway). But if you’re not sure just keep looking and try possibles on until you are sure. Take photos to look back on later (my sister took some sneaky ones of me as we weren’t sure we were allowed!) But more importantly, enjoy the experience and good luck
