I’m going for my first trying-on-dresses appointment on Thursday, and I was hoping to get some advice on what to expect – mostly so I don’t make a big fool of myself, you know.
So, I’m bringing my nude underwear (you have taught me well, O Tyra Banks), and a couple of different strapless bras just in case. I’m bringing my favourite bridesmaid and my Future Mother-In-Law, as well as a camera so we can email pics to my mummy dearest.
The appointment is at JCrew. (Has anyone else had an appointment there? What was it like?) I like their dresses far, far more than any I’ve seen from anywhere else. Honestly, I’m not the biggest fan of wedding dresses in general – most are not “my style” and just don’t look like something I could wear with confidence. This was one of the reasons I was at first nervous about having a wedding – standing in front of everyone in a big white poofy cupcake just didn’t feel like me. But the JCrew website calmed me down – simple, sophisticated dresses that (mostly) don’t break the bank. So I’m actually sort of looking forward to dress shopping now, although I’ll surely be totally lost and not know where to look next if this doesn’t work out.
So, sorry for the very long post, but could someone please try to explain how the typical appointment goes? How many dresses does one normally try on? How many is too many? How long does it take? Any other tips?
