I had my first fitting in May for an August 9th wedding and my final fitting in July, so I don't think you are going to have a problem unless your dress needs to be completely redone because it is way too big :-)
I am getting married the end of May and my first dress fitting isn't until March. So I think you will be fine. I think by waiting your dress will fit even better. Good luck!!
i had my first fitting in early june for my july 27 wedding so your timeline sounds just fine, unless you think your alterations are going to be very complicated.
if you are still worried, you can talk to your seamstress and ask her if she will have the dress ready in time (and perhaps add a few days of buffer to your need by date if you want to be really safe).
My wedding is June 26th and although I haven't made the appointment yet they said I dont' need to be in there until the end of march early april so I think your ok.
6/6/09 bride here too. My dress needs a lot of alterations and I'm going for my first fitting next week. But the seamstress told me that's not usual. She's giving me a deal since she's able to start working on it so early.
6/6 bride here, as well, and since I've got to travel to our wedding site/where my dress is, my first fitting was in December. I'm all nervous now that my body's going to change, so -- probably better to wait til closer to the wedding.
I did all of my dress fittings within 6 weeks, from the first to last. However I am getting married off season, so maybe being married in high season and depending on how busy your shop is they may want/need more time.
Good Luck!
Now you guys all have me worried. I'm getting married in March and have yet to have a dress fitting. hehe. Guess that's on my "to do" list.
I'm getting married in March...and my dress has not even shipped yet. I am a teeny bit worried....but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
I was married 9/27/08 and had my first fitting 7/19/08, my second fitting was a couple weeks later and I picked up the dress 9/3/08. I think you'll be fine- especially if your seamstress thinks your timeline is OK.
I'm getting married in March, and have yet to have my dress fitting yet. I think you should be fine. In my communication with a seamtress, two months should be more than enough time.
Also, I know how you feel about the schedule. I'm also an accountant (an auditor) at that and I'm getting married in March! That means, I have done a lot of work for the wedding during the holiday break as from here on out, there is no more time.
Good luck!
My store told me that they want to do the first fitting 6 to 8 weeks out. They prefer six weeks out, so that your body won't change too much. They said that they used to do fittings earlier, but that the girls changed so much so they were doing double the work!
You should be fine on 4/21, as long as the seamstress knows her deadline!
I'm having my dress custom made, so I will have several fittings. I hadn't thought of this, but the dressmaker is trying to schedule my fittings in multiples of 4 weeks before the wedding so that I'm in the same part of my cycle. It seemed like a really good idea so I thought I'd pass it on. I'm sure it's not feasible for everyone, but if possible it's soemthing to consider.
I'm a 6/19 bride and my first fitting will be the first week in April (for a custom made dress). I'm sure you're alright!!
I had my first fitting 5 weeks before. Just make sure to get on the schedule now. Of course, I will note that I did not need a hem & VERY little alterations + a bustle.

Beekeeper
Hello again bees! I'm getting married 6/6/09 but I won't be getting my first dress fitting done until April 21st due to a work situation. I'm an accountant and I'm going to be working Monday - Thursday 8am - 8pm and Friday - Saturday 8am - 5pm. We aren't allowed to take vacation time and I don't have any free time to make up leaving 2 or three hours early one day. All the checklists and girls here are talking about getting their first fitting done 5 or 6 months out. Am I in trouble here? Is the seamstress going to burn my dress to spite me (joking I hope)?
