yes, take your shoes and undergarments.  your seamstress will have u put it on and pin what she needs to altar.  There may be some stray strings here and there which they simply snip or sew under.  The dress will feel more stiff than the sample as the sample is worn in and tried on many times. you will maybe need to decide which bustle you like too if there are options for your dress.  it’s an exciting time!

@blondiegirl:  OK first dont panic!  It’s your first fitting and you are supposed to have three for a reason.  Second i’m sure as heck no expert at this but I’ll tell you what I know.  Either way you want to go in and check out your dress asap.  I remember I had a nightmare it was the wrong dress so that was anxiety with me.  Call them first and tell them you are undecided on a shoe.  They will most likely tell you to bring a shoe about the same size heel that you think you will wear.  That being said if i wasn’t sure I’d straight out tell them, and tell them not to hem the dress until youre sure.

I’m a small chested girl and thats almost exactly what I said on the phone to my consultant.  I was like I’m not wearing a bra.  They will probably sew cups in your dress to just help hold the form, but if they try to put you in something that looks like you had a little, or a lot, of work done up top…. don’t get those size cups!  She handed me one and i put it in and was like ahh no thats NOT me.  So we went with the little cups and it made me feel much better.

I also didn’t have undergarments for my dress and asked them if I could just get a slip there if needed.  My seamstress told me that I wouldnt even need a slip.  I’ll maybe get a nice comfy pair of undies from VS but maybe i’ll just wear a pair I already have… I don’t find it neccesary to get new undies for under my dress bc they aren’t needed.

A bustle is only needed if your dress has a train.  Mine does and its all lace so I wouldn’t want to be dragging that around all night.  My seamstress showed me the bustle each way for that dress and she told me I would know immediately which I wanted… and I’m very indecisive, and she was right.  Here’s a pic of me in my dress at first fitting.  I am wearing my shoes under all those layers, but you really cant tell. My dress, although not low, has a keyhole back, so kinda in the same realm as the whole braless thing.

Just remember, youre not the first girl to go in without a complete plan and its something they are used to and can adapt to.

@blondiegirl:  Thank you.  Luckily who ever measured me did a pretty good job and it fit me on the top really good.  I was actually worried because it felt a little tight, but I got used to it.  Youre wedding isnt until June too so you have plenty of time.  If you just want to go in and make sure that its the right dress and look it over thats ok too.  I had my first fitting early because I am out of state, and my fitting was the beginning of Jan for my April 20th wedding.  They normally say about 6 weeks out is when you have your first fittings, but I dont like waiting till the last minute especially being out of state.  Everything will be fine!  I’d love to see pics of your dress too when you do go.  My seamstress took those pics bc I went alone!

Also, as with any wedding purchase… try to also separate yourself.  I try to go in not all starry eyed and let them know I’m on top of my purchases and keep all of your receipts and get it in writing!  Double check everything!  It was like 20 bucks for the cups, but my seamstress said she would do my bustle free of charge because there wasnt much work to be done on my dress.  I had paid for their alterations package upfront.
